Default Sick of creative drivers.

After years of using creative sound cards I have finally had enough. The drivers are bloated chunks of amphibian shit. Looking for a card for 45% gaming, 45% movies, 10% music. Prefer to have 5.1 available and an on board headphone amp would be a plus.

But the main thing, who has drivers that aren't shit?

What's wrong with Creative's drivers?

I changed from an X-Fi for exactly the same reason - never even tried to resell it because it was just rubbish. The Creative drivers were absolute horrendous and would randomly die at certain points, forcing me to either open the config and change what style of sound the card was using, or restart. Friend had the same issue with a different card (same model, X-Fi XtremeGamer)

Went to an ASUS card, a Xonar ST at the time, and was happy enough with it that when I needed a PCIE card I just picked up the STX version. Plenty of price points in the series, so whatever floats your boat.

Granted, the CAS can be a bit of a pain in the arse, but it's only because it's doing something that Redmond is pissy about - re-implement the HAL after they nuked it.

The mode thing's a little annoying, but I prefer broken software to broken hardware, which is what happened to the Xonar I have - bricked outta the box.

Guarantee Creative's DOA rate is about the same as ASUS. Edit: And most other manufacturers for that matter.

Hmm, seems hard to find a card that has a headphone amp and 5.1 that's not creative and doesn't require an add on card.

Guess I may have to resort to 2.1 and using my cans a lot more.
