Shot the Batemans Bay 200m rimfire fly shoot on the 26/06. Pretty happy for my 2nd time with a 22lr at that distance, placed 6th. Planning on having my own 22 for it next year and taking my omark 308 down for the 500m fly on the saturday.

What sort of "training"?

You can do try shooting days at several ranges. I know St Marys indoor and the Olympic range at Cecil Park both allow you to try handgun shooting without a license. Auburn probably has something as well.

training as in basic handling and weapon safety as well as marksmanship.

Well you need to do a safety course as one of the first steps to getting your license so no problem there but I don't know how you'd expect to do marksmanship work without a license. The try shooting days are designed to let you get a feell for shooting and see if you want to take it further but anything more you need your license.

I'd suggest working out what discipline you're interested in and finding a local club and start talking to them. They'll be able to help every step of the way. It's not hard so you just need to be prepared to spend a couple of grand over about 2 years to get your license and first handgun and in the mean time you can shoot matches using the clubs handguns.

I'm interested in getting my Cat H and am attending a club day in a couple of weeks.

No need to get your own handgun, just use club guns.

I'm pretty keen on trying IPSC

True but I'd say 99% of people who go to the trouble of getting their license are going to buy their own handgun once they're past the probationary stage.

It'S IPSC that I'm going to start off with. Looks like fun rather than just plain target shooting.

I'll be going out to Blacktown on the 23rd and/or 24th as there's an IPSC Open on that I'm going to take a look at and chat with a few people. Not sure if that's the club I'll join but I know a couple of people shooting that weekend and they've invited me to come along.

Code, do you think a 3.5-15 would be ok for F class? I'd really like a Nightforce FFP mil scope but think 15 might not be high enough.

Edit: dont worry I'll live without the FFP

Being young with good eyesight it will serve you well. Remember we older koots are into our third set of prescription glasses... Also of note we have TR shooters shooting the same targets getting V-Bulls over open sights. So go for it and see how you go.

On another note, I picked up an MDT kit for my son's target rilfe (.223 remmie) and put it together this morning.

We are both toally stoked as it is sexy as hell.

To top the weekend off my CAT H arrived Friday afternoon.... WOOOOOOT!!!
