Step one of being a respectable firearms owner: They aren't "weapons." Calling them weapons scares the morons who think they're bad.

Sorry for the thread hijack, any tips for a victorian newbie?

Would it just make sense for me to wait until next time i go to the US to have a whirl of a firearm?

no?

If he's got access to a HUGE property where he can safely shoot targets and stuff at the luxury of his own residence, then why not?

Why should he have to go to a range?

just thought i'd point out that SSAA yearly membership is only about $80 and depending on the range you goto you have to pay a fee each time you shoot there, i goto the ripley range in ipswich and it only cost me $8 including 3 targets but i don't think they hire out rifles. also members of the SSAA don't need written permission to shoot on someone property they just need verbal permission

While i'm posting, i'm looking at getting a cat B rifle and i know you need a genuine reason for a Cat B more so then a Cat A, but i've been told being a Member of the SSAA means i can just say i'm a member and i'll get the permit, can anyone confirm that.

here you go.

fill that out, get your parents to fill out their respective parts, and put that with your application (you still need to go do a gun safety course to append with your application too, mind you)

and then you're done.

From my experience in QLD, a CAT B genuine reason if you are a member of SSAA is simply "Sporting, Target shooting and/or hunting".

SSAA has many centrefire disciplines which require a CAT B rifle and if you plan on hunting, I'd suggest a rimfire cartridge isn't appropriate to use on deer or similar.

What about a centrefire on foxes?

Surely it would be a pretty show hitting a fox with a .303 round

(I'm kidding of course)

Only centrefire you should use on foxes is the .416 Barrett

There's a new rifle for sale at my local firearms dealer which is chambered in it, and the bloody thing is the price of a small car. If I were rich, I'd be all over it.

Thumbs up OCAU Firearms Thread

I've tentativly searched a few times now and haven't found a specific 'Post your firearms' type thread so I thought I'd start one. (Sorry if some smarty pants links to it on post 2 lol)

I've posted this pic before but I thought I'd get the ball rolling.

Remmington 700 SPS in .308w, 24inch barrel. Harris Ultralight bipod, Leupold Premium rings and base with a 4-16x44 Nikko Stirling scope.

Goal for the rifle is to serve as a long range target puncher, but also be able to take out and drop a pig/buff if I get the urge.

Also purchased but not shown, is the AICS 1.5 stock. Unfortunatly there has been quite a delay in getting it into the country.

This is the stock that I am waiting for. Some members here may recognise it as the AI rifles are the basis of the AWP lol

Next on the purchase list is a Roedale Precision muzzle break and a decent Nightforce scope.

So post them up everyone. Lets see you mighty sticks of death and evil!
