I would hope the inbuilt audio can be removed and disconnected as I'm going to immediately assume it's going to be not so great compared to what most people would have connected to their PC.

EDIT: Personally I'd rather just wait until the reviews are out. Oculus have piss farted around for so long on this too long so I'm not about to hand over any money when the Vive could be better.

Me too - that is very generous of Oculus

I've been using the Gear VR for a bit - I hope they have a similar concept with the "living room" menu, and also the app store for the rift, as that has worked pretty well - one thing that would be nice is the ability to purchase stuff from within the headset - I genuinely believe that in order for this to become a commercial and public success, they need to nail those aspects of the system.

DCS (Digital Combat Simulator) + Nevada/Las Vegas map + Huey is simply awesome fun. I just hope that CV1 has enough resolution so that gauges will be readable.

That said, you kinda don't really need to watch gauges anyway, as a lot of the cues can be taken visually..

Excuse my terrible piloting skills..

I use a Logitech G940 flight stick with HOTAS and pedals. The good thing is that when using a WW2 era plane, the stick gives you feedback to when you're approaching stall speeds. Also, I have a Logitech trackpad which acts as a mouse in game so it feels very intuitive as the cockpit has clickable buttons, negating the need for for a keyboard.

The compatibility checker appears to currently discriminate, whether intentional or not, against NVIDIA Optimus laptops. When running the checker normal, my results were negative saying I'm running an INTEL gfx card which is not supported. I then re-ran the checker with the NVIDIA processor, and yielded same results.

That's not bad at all if that's AUD.. considering conversion of $599 USD is almost $850 AUD, and then add shipping... seems incorrect somewhow. Still, more than I expected.

hmmm... yeah seems a little off. It said $649 with $132 for shipping... I guess it's USD then? I'm tired
Oh well.. still not that much compared to the cost of the upgrade I'll need to run it!

Seems a lot of people are confused about the currency, you would think they would make it clear. If it's $1100 AUD that is pretty expensive. I'll still get one but not just yet.

The $ value given appears to be localised.

If you flip through the countries on the shipping screen, it changes the currency type and value.

I reckon it's still in USD. When the DK2 came out, it was exactly the same. It was $350 USD plus $100+ in fees and that's when the exchange rate was close to parity so it was like $520AUD delivered.

I've put my pre-order in.. I mean, I'll have until April to decide whether or not to keep the pre-order or if the Vive is a better buy.

If it is $780 AUD delivered, then yeah, that's about what I thought.. but $1100.. even I might NOPE outta that. The DK2 will be supported through to SDK V1.0.

Although the $600USD price tag is considerably higher than the "$350" ballpark figure we were given earlier, I think the tech justifies it. This is some awesome gear. But yes it was misleading to mention pricing like that and people will be disappointed.

But... with a March 28 shipping date, that means nothing in hands until early April at best. That is just too close to Vive release for me to commit to a Rift. I think laser tracking potential and the onboard camera make Vive too juicy to pass up, but will cost even more no doubt. I think I'll just wait and get the premium setup. What are others thinking?

One thing which hasn't been noted in this thread yet, but you will also require a GTX970 / AMD R9 290 minimum

Alot of people may also need an upgrade before diving into this as well.
