Well bit disappointed, I was thinking ~$400, it's $649 AU so I think I'll give that a miss, might pick up a DK2 to play with

Interesting to see what the Vive and PSVR cost.

Wow, that's even more ridiculous, yep, DK2 for me. I just want to muck around in racing games and what not, it's definitely not worth over $1k! (imo)

Pre-Ordered, then found thread

Sure is a lot more than $350... had no idea when I completed preorder whether it was $AU or $US, guess it's $US eh? Oh well. Better be good in assetto.

That's one of the only reasons I want it, still, $1k for that is a bit high. Will be very interesting to see what people think of them once they get them.

That's way too much, and too long.
Will definitely be waiting till the Vive is released, even then i'll probably have to wait a while longer

Not that anyone who is halfway serious about PC gaming needs a tool to tell them what hardware is inside the system....I downloaded it anyway:

Sorry VR, nice try (again)....but I cannot see this getting mainstream acceptance. All the factors which determine this are out of reach for most:

- Cost
- Lack of killer app
- Requirement to upgrade PC
- inability to effectively demonstrate without actually owning one or knowing someone who does.

I can see this going the way of motion controls and 3D

I humbly applaud all you early adopters. Thankyou for your sacrifice and see you in Aincrad.

I'm sure it will be sold at retail here at some point, which will save on those shipping fees at least

I don't care how cool it is, absolute max I'd pay would be $500 - and that'd be a stretch.

Maybe I'm not in the target market, even though I think I am. The price point is just wrong.

Like a console this thing needs to be sold at a loss and the software needs to drive profits.

Pretty much, its a catch 22...they need the early sales to gain more developer support and get that killer app but on the flipside, not many are going to commit at that price point until that happens.

It will be interesting to see how Sony and HTC/Valve respond...I imagine their pricing announcements won't be too far behind.

Considering the cash behind this product I think that's not true - out of the gate it needs to be great, that price point means destined to fail.

Price point, software - everything needs to be spot on.

Even Sony recognised that after the massive pricing fuckup they made on the launch PS3.

I don't know what Oculus business plan is, but everyone needs to fall on their arse to learn I guess.... They will have a limited audience, who are already the market - but outside of that, it may not grow.

Considering at that price point you can build a decent rig/computer system or get all the current gen consoles, the rift sounds overpriced for a gaming platform.
