Does anyone have any personal recommendations on places to eat at?

I'll be going over for the first time from October 10-23rd.

Already booked accommodation in Tokyo (Shibuya), Osaka (Near Dotonbori), and Kyoto I am still trying to figure out where's the best location that has a lot of Kyoto-things to do. I want to do as much as I can within reasonable travel distance without wasting much time.

I saw a post on another forum about the current weather in Japan being far colder than usual for this time of year. We head over in 10 days, so can anyone over there currently comment on the temps? Is it going to be jeans and jumpers or shorts and t-shirts?

Tokyo is normal for me, jeans and t-shirts. Maybe at night you might need and extra layer at most.

I really love Lotteria for their burgers and shaker fires (Soy Salt). Never underestimate the 7/11 Sandwiches on the go (they are of a far higher standard than Australia as many Japanese will eat them). From the train stations if your catching the train the bento boxes are excellent.

Tokyo has one of the best French Restaurants we ever tried (we were taken by a local who took us to several places). It is really hard to make any recommendations as we were spoilt (has local friends) and Tokyo is a massive city which is far more complex and diverse than any city we have in Australia also I haven't been there in 4 years so many places may have changed in that time.

As far as things to do in Kyoto review the guide (including video) I had pasted previously covering the different zones and suggestions:

It depends on where you are headed (and where you are from if your from Tassie everywhere will be warm, Cairns and it will all be spanner weather) - north will be bloody cold and you'll want thermals whereas south you may still wear shorts.

25th-30th - Tokyo
1st-2nd - Nagano
3rd-5th - Osaka
5th-9th - Nagoya (I'll be in Suzuka for 7th/8th but family staying in Nagoya)

So guessing we will need a bit of everything clothing wise.

you can always grab some HeatTech over there if needed from any of the many UniQlo stores:

Mate its still hot here in Tokyo. In 10 days you should still be fine with shorts, shirt and thongs even at night. I go to work each day in jeans and a short sleeve shirt and sweat my guts out. So don't think its some kind of winter wonderland lol. Its currently 29 degrees atm and its 5pm but more telling is the 50%+ humidity, its the real killer.

Shorts and tee shirts everyday, since 7/9. It's humid weather, not the dry you out type of heat you get like in australia. Pack a jumper/sweater at most if you are sceptical.
