The inbuilt game pad in the phone.

I turned the on screen controls off, too.

That's pretty neat. There are a few cheapy Android gaming devices showing up on DealExtreme. I'm tempted to buy one for some handheld 8/16 bit emulation.

What about Aero Fighters 1/II?

I'm not 'shrump' fan by any means, never heard of the term before until this thread.

All i know is the main shurmp type of games that i grew up with were:

Aero Fighters II
Metal Slug Series
Contra

Does Thunderforce IV qualify for this thread? IMO the best soundtrack in a game ever.

All great shmups.

Aero Fighters is very similar to a lot pf Psikyo shooters. Check them out if you like that style.

Metal Slug obviously has had a tonne of sequels (I think the MS7 was on NDS, and there's a new MS on XBLA recently?).

And likewise Contra has seen a fantastic volume of good sequels, with "Shattered Soldier" on PS2 being an awesomely hard title to round off the series.

Thunderforce IV is easily my favourite from the TF series. I really enjoyed Thunderforce VI on PS2 as well, despite how easy it was.
