Default Retro Let's Play: Early March 2017 voting thread

Click here if you want an explanation of what this is, and why we're doing it.

Poll added, vote away. Voting closes Feb 28, and we play March 1.

Current nominations:

* Bubble Bobble (1986)
* Chrono Trigger (1995)
* Ghostbusters (1984)
* It Came From The Desert (1989)
* NetHack (1987)
* Tempest (1981)

Nominate the game we'll play and discuss during early March 2017 in this thread. On Tuesday 21 February nominations will close, I'll add a poll, and we'll vote on the game there. Votes close Feb 28, and we start playing March 1.

For now, nominate away. Rules are similar to other retro threads - the original game must be 10 years old or older (released March 2007 or earlier). Please keep nominations to one per person, so the voting list stays sane.

See the FAQ thread linked to above for sites offering inspiration and ideas of which titles to pick. When nominating, please share a small amount of information about the game and maybe a screenshot or video. Handy links include MobyGames, HG101 or Wikipedia links.

Auto-nominating "Bubble Bobble" (1986) and "Chrono Trigger" (1995), due to their close second and third place in the voting last time.

Nominating "It Came From The Desert"

A brilliant old school adventure from the Amiga.

Available on Steam as part of the truly excellent Cinemaware Anthology on Steam.

It Came from the Desert

secretly I might vote for Bubble Bobble though, pretty much just to listen to the music.

When guests come to my place, Bubble Bobble always gets a request on the arcade machine. Easily in the top 5 requests, along side Galaga, Pacman and a few others.

What's more interesting for me is that it's VERY popular with the ladies. Psychologically speaking, I'm fascinated by the concept of "play" (which is part of why I love this hobby), and as a part of that have always been interested in the Venn Diagram of preferred games by men versus women. Bubble Bobble is one of those where the gender overlap is high, but if I average out which gender asks for it more often within their own circle, it's more popular as a percentage of female votes.

All anecdotal, low sample rate, and non-conclusive of course. But interesting none the less.

If we're talking arcade, how about Tempest (pick your incarnation)?

"Bubble Bobble" and "It Came From The Desert" in the same batch, you monster!

I'll have to nominate "It Came From The Desert", mainly because the first time I managed to get to the queens chamber, the damn game went all guru meditation on me

We're just nominating at the moment. A poll will open on Feb 21, and you can vote (for one or more items in the poll).

If your desired game doesn't win, feel free to nominate it again in the future. We've had a few multi-nominations already (Syndicate lost out early on, but came back to win in the next round of voting).

I'm planning to keep this going as long as I can, so there should be plenty of time to get all our favourite games in eventually.

And, if nobody nominates or votes, then I pick some obscure Japanese shmup and play it all by myself.

Brain went all mushy for a minute there

To compensate for my stupidity I think I'll nominate the Activisions' Ghostbusters from 1984

About an hour or so left on the poll. Get your final votes in, and tomorrow the winner is played.

Tie between Puzzle Bobble and Chrono Trigger!

I say: we play both! They're both bloody great games, totally different genres and play styles, and hell, it's my birthday next week, so treat yo self.

New threads inbound tomorrow.
