yup a 12yr old blind child can clock sb. can't knock the performance or the price mind. as i said before - prepare to knock over pb's very quickly. i have a love / hate relationship with the platform.. it's quick, easy and priced to be disposable. luck of the draw, or binning, will get you a high multi but remember that when your over 1.55vcore your on the clock as to how long it'll last.

Play with some super PI and pifast. Then efficiency testing for 3D.

Yeah I won't push it high until everything else is sorted, like GPU clocks, RAM, efficiency etc.

It's amazing how fast they are isn't it.... I dislike the platform for obvious reasons but you cannot hate the performance , especially at the price.

I would buy sandy also and with the right board still run 580 tri sli

for a cheap bench rig yeah its the way to go for sure..

A 2500K is probably better if your trying to not bust a whole in your wallet and there's probably some better motherboards in terms of price. Pretty much a Gene-Z would be all you need. Based on how the PSC sticks I get this week go with my MSI GD65 I'm either going to give it the thumbs up or down.

The upgrade to Sandy Bridge can be as cheap as $350-450 if you can scavenge parts from previous builds. I would certainly have a go at clocking your current ram before buying new ram. Sandy performs well even with loose timings.

I cant recommend my Gene enough if you arent running dual cards. great features, excellent bios and overclocking, its nice and small, and the mosfet coolers actually mount properly.

I'll be selling the OCZ Platinums I've been using in the competition as soon as its over, i have 4x2GB if you're interested in that.

if you want the fun of amd with some actual performance to back it up id be going x58/p55 or something..

having played with recent amd and intel platforms i cant really speak highly of the amd stuff. the performance really isnt there. fine for cheap gaming rigs, yes, but so is SB..

it is fun, though. having said that, looking back now id probably have been better off having my break from SB with x58.

edit: otherwise, yeah im with the others on SB. would suggest 2500k unless you really want the HT

out of interest, why the gbyte board when 90% of us have Asus boards?

not an insult, just curious. i generally buy Asus brand boards simply because im more used to their bios' and their ROG boards are generally the top performers.

I'm sure t8y will have a bit to say about ROG Boards . So far we've bombed out a Maximus IV Extreme and a Maximus V Formula, really easily too. My Maximus III GENE seems to be going well (for now) but doesn't seem to like massive BCLK.

I'm on the fence on whether I'll stick with ROG. Will have to see how this EVGA Classi treats me. Then go from there.
