Cinematic is really nice - but I still haven't heard anything about the game that sets it apart other than the elder scrolls setting.

It seems the companies that use established IP for MMOs are afraid to push the boundaries. It's especially jarring to see a generic theme park TES MMO, because everyone is familiar with them as a huge singleplayer sandbox games with loads of player freedom.

Maybe as they ramp up to release they will start showing off some more interesting features

If they make a live action movie, I'll buy it.

The MMO however I'll probably pass on.

I signed up for beta. Very confident that this game is going to just be a generic MMO with an elders scrolls skin on top. Im prepared for the worst so should be interesting.

Sadly I think so to. I imagine there'll be a few things different here and there but nothing major.

The trailer for this really brings home that game developers could soon be bringing us our big budget movies.

I know I probably would have watched a movie length version over something like Avatar. Both are almost entirely CG, so no reason why it couldn't be done

I don't get why no one is innovating. This sounds bland and pointless.

What can really be done with MMOs though?

Gameplay.

So many of them are making the same game!

(usually)Fantasy RPG with talent trees and quests...but in a party of humans. Use your skills to kill monsters to get more skills to kill harder monsters.

It's an MMO, they can't really change that much without changing the game.

What you've suggested is really just more of the same.

I didn't suggest anything?

If I did indirectly, it was to not do what I described. That would be a bit difficult for something like TSO, which *is* an RPG game, but if they simply want to cash in on the MMO thing (massively multiplayer subscriptions), they don't *have* to make an RPG with their lore. They could try their hand at a million other genres. That's what I meant by changing the gameplay.

You know what I'd like to see in an MMO?

An MMO.

So much emphasis is put on gameplay and yet that exact mentality is what has turned WoW into a lackluster, single-player game that you occasionally get together with other random people for five minutes of bland 'content'.

Fuck skill. Fuck twitch mechanics. Fuck complex monsters. Fuck talent trees. Fuck classes. Fuck builds. Fuck all standard MMO's.

What I want is to interact with other people in a dynamic environment with awesome stories that I actually have some impact on and that requires me to find and work with people to accomplish meaningful goals.

And by meaningful goals, I don't mean getting a bigger weapon and shinier toys. I mean actually accomplishing something in the game world that has an emotional impact. I want to rescue the fucking princess and marry her, goddammit.

This does not look to be that game.

Ok, so you're bored with those. I can certainly relate to that.

What you're describing here sounds more like RL. A game's strength is that it can give everyone mostly the same experience, but that is exactly what makes it meaningless in the end. You'll get your princess and so will everyone else. There are tons of kids who haven't experienced that yet, though, so there is that.

You do make a good point about meaningfulness, though. What made the games you've played meaningful to begin with? The fact that you had an impact? or the fact that they had an impact on you?
