Hey Callan, would you mind posting/linking your C64 PSU rebuild? Seems that c128.com is down at the moment.

Thanks!

EXCITED!

I just found out that my uncle still has his VIC 20, C64 and 128D, plus various peripherals and software. Best news is he's looking at downsizing to an apartment from their house so needs to get rid of a bunch of stuff.

I'll be dropping out to see it all over the christmas break, so hopefully I can grab pretty much everything from him.

I'd love to show my kids how I grew to love games, using the same systems I played around with back in the day. They've already got an Atari 2600 to play with, so the C64 in particular is the next step.

I'll post photo's as soon as I've got it all.

Donut King, while you wait for the c128 blog to come back online the mod I did might be interesting reading for you. Callan was stuck with a fried 5v section and a likely fried transformer. I used the existing transformer for 9v with a new switch mode 5v side.

There is also the plugpack combiner I made but if you are interested in Callan's blog it seems that you don't want to do it that way.

Yeah I've seen your work and I will probably do something similar, but I also want to read up on what Callan did before I decide how to proceed.

Hey guys, so I was lucky enough to be given an original Commodore 64 family pack complete in box. Everything is in there and in near mint condition including all manuals, leaflets, even the bags around the components. I'll put up some photos a bit later but does anyone have a ballpark on what it would be worth. As cool as it is I'm not really interested in keeping it. I can't guarantee that it
works but looking at the condition I would be very surprised if it didn't.

Cheers.

Here's a sneak preview

Says $499 on the box. Sounds like a good starting point to me.

These things are a little weird. I've seen some go for not much, others advertised for a fair bit and not sold. Its going to depend on who wants it. If you want the max you can get put it on ebay and watch it climb. If you want a quick sale, stick a couple of hundred on it and it should sell quite quickly.

C128 seems to have some DNS problems. It's up at the moment - might have to use googleDNS to get there.

It doesn't have the RF or AV cable so I couldn't test it but it powers on.

Just trying to get a C64 working. Old style.

There is no sound. The 6581 gets warm but nothing doing.

There are some chalky looking marks on the underside of the motherboard that match the shape of the RF modulator, I have cleaned everything but they seem permanent. Any ideas before I try a new SID or perhaps a SwinSID?

It has blown its fuse at some stage too, the old one is wrapped in foil

Edit: It is possible the marks on the board are flux from a repair, the pattern is strange though. Further checks reveal it is getting its 5 and 12v DC. Have tested the same setup with a working machine and got sound. Looked at audio out with my CRO. Nothing at the chip. Ordered a SwinSID Nano on ebay, $27 delivered. I have listed to some online comparisons and it has some issues but it should be fun to play with and will be useful for diagnostics.

He had it all packed away in boxes in his shed, so I didn't get a chance to see it all at Christmas. I have to move a bunch of boxes to get to the boxes with all the goodies inside. Hence the reason we didn't get it done at Christmas.

I'm hoping to get back out there some time in the next month or so, so I'll check it out.
