Using the unoffical 98 SP3, with 82.69 drivers to get the 7950GT working.

I couldn't get my 7950GT AGP card to work at all under 98SE, so was surprised the PCI-E version worked.

I have a second 7950GT PCI-E and as it's an SLI board I had to give it a go, but it crashed as soon as the driver was installed. I'm not sure if SLI is a total no-go under 98 or if 2x512mb cards was the problem.

The 82.69 drivers apparently also support 8 series cards, but I had no luck with an 8800GTX or 8800GTS 512. Both would crash on startup with a windows protection error.
Too much work & no play ........... fixed

First go of the e6600 Atmo, only XP ......but no time to mess with dodgy 98
All stock, no tweek on fresh install. Within 10 year limit hardware

Add another. Slight OC & crap turned off in bios

Which GPU?

XP opens up a lot more options for hardware, I've found that with an E6600 at 3.6 the system is somewhat CPU limited for 01.

The 8800GTX just had it's 10th birthday I figured I'd give them a shot...

Single 8800GTX

SLI 8800GTX

And since Phil tried a GTX285...

SLI 275s....Hardly any improvement over the 8800s. In 3dmark06 there's a bigger jump though.

I'll post results for single and SLI 7950's tomorrow night.

Haha we'd better stick to the 10 year limit OR I'll bust out my Haswell Devils Canyon x50 on XP

8800GTS, one of the nicer gpu's here. Still on the original bios for this 775.
First touch of a board + e6600, I was all Amd back then.

What's a safe boost on the 8800's? What program are you tweekin in screenie?

Edit done some more

Using XP for this challenge is shooting fish in a barrel. Win98 is giving me massive headaches on Skt 775 ... which is part of the fun

Anything goes under 98SE.

Obviously we need a limit for XP or it's anything up to 780ti and X99/Z170 systems.

Time for a consolidated retro benchmark thread? Any hardware, game or synthetic benchmark as long as it's 10+ years old?

The limit was win 98 not having to be 10 years old.

Friday afternoon, ha who needs rules

But that 10 year thing could be mental, chalking scores up on the board, while the other guys are unawares

Edit. 10,15,20

If you think about it, 1996 has the socket 7, 2001 370> 462 ......... then the obvious one we are doing now.

That could have us all involved.......cranking that platform one last time you loved
