does the storage sub-system play a role?(
Yes fast straight up 3.4GHZ

No I don't think so. I'm using a 80GB pata hdd, max sequential 70-80MBps

Monitor temps. Don't blow your shit up. A fan placed over the vrm's is good, another pointed at the gpu fan input for cooler air.

haven't monitored temps.. tbh I didn't hear the GPU fan spin up, which I found odd. I have a single slot X1950Pro like yourself, so was expecting a little drama like yours as well.

I do have my case side of, the next two slots are vacant & a 240v desktop fan blowing in maybe that's keeping things under control!

ah yes.. that bug that keeps coming back.. just-can't-leave it-as it is!

I removed two sticks of ram (was running 2x1GB + 2x512MB) now just the 2x1, used some kinda of auto bios setting of 'turbo' for the ram

bumped the fsb to 215, so x17 = 3655

aaaand took out the i-RAMs (weren't really doing anything) & the VR, and now re-installing WS03R2 onto an Intel 520 120GB SSD

then... bench again

Ah yes lets add mathematics to this for the upcoming.........

Barton vs P$ comp.

My 462 is doing 2.7Ghz vs ae00711 EE doing 3.4Ghz
OR 26% difference.

My score 23K x 1.26 = 29K

Some nice scores there.

I haven't had much time for benching this week, but doubt I'll be able to get my 3200+ close to your 2.7 score Shane.
