Default Retro software sales

Inspired by so many other threads around the place, let's track retro software sales. First-hand/new licenses only (no tracking of second hand stuff, that can go other threads).

"10 years to the day" or older rule in place. Happy enough to bend that for bundles where not all the software is 10 years old, or remasters of old titles (as long as the original meets the 10 year requirement).

*********************

Starting off, GOG are having their Fall Sale, with 60% off lots of stuff. A few nice bundles in there:

Night Dive Studios, with titles like "System Shock", "Turok" and "I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream"

Unreal Tournament 2004:

Dungeons and Dragons, as well as Forgotten Realms:

Psychonauts:

Earthworm Jim 1&2

Earthworm Jim 3D:

Battle Chess:

Messiah:

Prehistorik 1&2

Secret Agent:

And a bunch more.

GOG sales are great. i haven't bought a (retro) game on Steam for ages, because one day they'll stop supporting XP.

GOG wishlist feature doesn't work well, often I don't get notifications when a wishlist game is on sale, so it pays to checks regularly.

I tend to buy games on GoG by preference for a bunch of reasons. Being DRM-free as the major one, and the trivial ability to take games and play them on much older systems (right back to DOS) as another.

But sometimes you just can't beat the lure of a Steam sale. That, and Steam have some brilliant games coming to them recently (I see a bunch of Japanese shoot 'em ups on there that used to be only available on region-locked Japanese consoles at ridiculous prices, and are now on Steam for very reasonable prices).

For example, the brilliant 2004 release Mushihimesama:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/377860/

A much easier arcade shooter for a spaz like me than previous Cave titles, with a brilliant graphical style and soundtrack. I paid a fortune for that on both PS2 and XBox 360, and it's great to see it on Steam now so that I can recommend it to friends when it's on sale next time.

Anyways, enough about GoG vs Steam. Post your sale links!

Valve could easily keep a legacy client running, just as a launcher with disabled store and community features. It's far more likely they'll just quietly stop supporting it one day though.

MOO and MOO2 on sale at GOG.

Well I just bought Freedom Planet, because it's the best retro Sonic game ever made.

https://www.gog.com/game/freedom_planet

Broke my own "10 years" rule. Sorry not sorry. Can't wait to get this hooked up in 240p.

And while I'm breaking the rules, Spelunky (the best La Mulana clone out there) is also on sale:

PC versions of Street Fighter Alpha 2 (Windows) and Mortal Kombat 1+2+3 (DOS) on special:
https://www.gog.com/game/mortal_kombat_123
https://www.gog.com/game/street_fighter_alpha_2

The hilarious limb-lopping DOS classic "Die By The Sword":
https://www.gog.com/game/die_by_the_sword_expansion

Arcade shooters Raiden III and IV (worth noting both of these came out on arcade hardware that was PC/Windows based, so these are arcade perfect ports):
https://www.gog.com/game/raiden_3_digital_edition
https://www.gog.com/game/raiden_iv_overkill

And once again I'm breaking my own age rules. Shantae is the best "Wonderboy 3: Dragon's Trap" clone series available today. Two recent games in the series are on special:
https://www.gog.com/game/shantae_and_the_pirates_curse
https://www.gog.com/game/shantae_ris..._directors_cut

I'm still playing the Gameboy Color original, so I'll buy these and stash them for later.

You can use this site to find the biggest discounts and sort them: http://www.an-ovel.com/pages/magog.php

Just set the order to

- by percentage discount
- descending

First up is Chaos engine with a 90% discount selling for A$1.29: https://www.gog.com/game/the_chaos_engine

Lots of other cool games. A personal favourite of mine is Another World, 79% discounted for just A$ 2.69.

I grabbed this one last night, who knows if I'll play it or not - I notice DD4 is out today and it's cheap as too.

$10 on Steam http://store.steampowered.com/app/528610/

I've never played an X-COM (yet another game I totally missed for reasons I don't understand). So it's a bucket-list title for me (which I'm actually starting to get through, with a few titles knocked off in 2016, and 2017 looking good for gaming time finally).

Worth considering for the Let's Play thread, I reckon (when you open up nominations again).

Also, grrr, why doesn't Steam let you force download titles (so I can run X-Com on my Linux machine)?

Good one. I have a fond memory of playing this when I was a teenager. I had a 386 with no HDD and a B/W screen. Can't remember how I got this machine, but I remember we couldn't afford buying HDD, so I basically loaded everything from FDD into a ram drive and saved onto FDD when finished playing.

During the last mission I had an issue where my save file got corrupted or whatnot and I had to fiddle with hex editor to fix my save file to be able to finish the game.
