No, they interact with you like that. I used to talk to mine, and they'd look like they were talking back. They'd come up to the glass and look at you and all that sort of thing, they don't just swim around like zombies, they notice you there.

They also get animated when it's feeding time.

That's awesome!

I've been training him to follow my finger at feeding time. It's quite fun.

As I'm leaving the lid of the aquarium open now he's also eating some bugs.

Healthy looking fish. Way better than the ones I see in pet shops with massive amounts of fin rot. I used to have one that was ultra aggressive. He was alone in the tank but would flare and attack the glass if anyone entered the room or even just randomly.

A bit of an update:

Went out and grabbed a pair of Corydoras Schwartzi catfish to start populating the bigger tank. Given it'd only been running for two weeks (maybe just a bit more) the guy recommended starting real small with the additions.

Also picked up an API master test kit and a plant on a log.

Turns out our pH is pretty high at 8.2 so I grabbed a bottle of pH Down but haven't used it yet because I read a few things which indicated it might cause a sudden drop or rebound type scenario.

My plan is to pre-treat our next water change which I might run mid next week (did a 20% change on Friday) and slowly bring it down that way. Supposedly the log will drop it also.

Not the best pic but they're hiding out there at the moment. Have been fairly active prior to me getting the camera out.

I also grabbed some API Quick Start as it is a newish tank and I have a feeling I'm probably moving a little too quickly with the additions but it was all I could do to slow the fiance down to waiting until this week.

Current stats at the time I added the new fish and log:

pH 8.2
Ammonia 0.25ppm
Nitrite 0.25ppm
Nitrate 5.0 ppm
26.9'C

I might test the straight tap water to see if that nitrate level is due to the filter working or just from the tap water.

24 hours since adding the catfish and the stats have either stayed constant or decreased slightly.

pH down 0.2 to 8.0
Ammonia down from 0.25ppm to 0ppm
Nitrite stable at 0.25ppm
Nitrate somewhere between 0 & 5ppm.

With 2 more fish added I'd have expected a bump in Ammonia but perhaps the API quickstart took care of that?

All fishies seem to be getting along fine. The Betta very occasionally herds the two Corydora but they don't seem concerned and roam the whole tank freely. Can't see any battle damage on any of them
