Pwah. We'll just have to wait and see how this turns out. Because I have no clue what is going on with that MMO. Guess they're trying to balance everything out, although I would THINK that the Jedi would be able to handle themselves at least a bit.

I think they are trying to make it that every class can fill every role and that they are reasonably balanced. I mean you could think of it like in WoW terms to there are paladins (say Jedi Knight) and death knights (say Sith Inquisitor) but they aren't all like Tirion and Arthas in power.

I know it would be awesome to have Jedi that were that powerful but it really wouldn't make for a good game. You would basically have no choice but to make that class or you would suck.

Really? Wow...some of you guys have zero imagination and/or knowledge of the setting for TOR.

If there are tens of thousands of Jedi and Sith running around they're hardly all going to be as powerful as Luke or Vader. No planet would remain intact.
The Sith pretty much kept themselves in check (number 2 always knocking off number 1 most powerful) and the Jedi just weren't all that developed. Yoda/Obi/Mace level of training/advancement/order don't develop for a few thousand more years.

That and it'd be no fun to play if everyone had to be Jedi or Sith

Tank, Heals, Dps... sounds like another cookie cutter holy trinity MMO to me.

Highly doubt it. They want people with 10 year old PCs to be able to play. So....yeah....

saw this last week, thought i should update the thread

http://www.swtor.com/info/systems/advanced-classes

essentially taking on the AION/tabula rasa model of leveling, you choose the base class first, after passing a certain level/skill you will pick up the specialisation and you can then customise skill trees for that advanced specialisation.

much like the cataclysm revamp to WoW where you get to spend 40 levels figuring out how to tank/heal/dps and solo mobs with one single spec, it could be interesting to see if you can solo quests with a 'weaker' class build for both group and solo questing. the description seems to emphasise that everyone gets some DPS.

Nothing about respec or dual-specs yet, so it might change later on as the game development progresses or the strategy/questing/pvp expands, most especially questions about PVP with stealth vs jedi. or grenade/mini-gun vs jedi or jedi & jedi vs sith, etc.

There's also a big issue, its kind of obvious, that there's 1 healer class for sith, which would be awesome fun when trying to find a PUG (sigh) or having a designated gimp for when you guild up. "its your turn to sith and heal"
And last, but not least...

"Jedi Wizard" and "Sith Sorceror",
Just to let you know you're in an MMO.

Here's the breakdown for each one.

Some good reports from people who got to play it at PAX that has just been on.

Quote:
After spending the last 8 hours just at the TOR booth at PAX getting to play the six available classes, no Jedi, I have to say that this game is just too much FUN!. I have now changed my main from Sith Inquisitor to Trooper and I am really happy with what I have seen/played today.

Yes there are minor bugs but what do you expect for a game still 6+ months from release. I could not see anything game stopping wrong with TOR. But what I would say is that the state the game is in now is better than most of the MMOs I have played from release in the last few years. What we were shown was again only level 2, I did level several times on various characters during my play.

My overal experience was first and formost fun, so much so that I hung around all day and just kept on playing and playing and playing.
New video out as well.

Spoiler below, highlight to read:
even though I had already heard about the bit at the end it still made me want to go play KOTOR again

+1 to this. Looks like something out of the early 2000's. Cartoony looking graphics in a Star wars based game doesnt appeal to me at all. But then again, im sure theres probably a million kids who would love it.

After seeing FFXIV and it's shocking gameplay horror.... i guess i dont mind if the visuals of SWTOR look crap... as long as the game is fun to play.

Square Enix really failed in the fun department with FFXIV open beta imo.

This.

In SWG, they started down the path of making Jedi a more powerful profession over the others and they quickly regretted it - and this was during a time when you couldn't just start as a Jedi. Naturally, when you make a profession more powerful than others, everyone flocks to it, especially those that PvP as they feel they need to be that to be viable. The end result was that the game was essentially remade and Jedi was redesigned as a profession that was in-check with all the other professions.

yeah but if an every day hurrdurr soldier, can be more powerful than a jedi
what's the point

surely jedi have ALWAYS been 'superior' even if not to that insane level (yoda etc.)

besides, did you never play the KOTOR games? jedi were PLENTY powerful in that setting (same TOR era), with a very high level of advancement.
