Never played MechWarrior then?

I used to get semi's over the MW2 intro... used to play it to my friends back in the day cos we were like the only people on the street with a computer.

It looks awesome and I can't wait. But do any of you keyboard warriors honestly think you could have smoothly maneuvered around buildings like in the trailer with MW2 controls? I don't think so. I really want it to stay realistic but I can't see accurate maneuvering like that without W,A,S,D style controls which will then turn it into any old FPS. Need neural interfaces to do things right!!!

If we ever needed confirmation that your opinion is worth less than an anaemic, half-strangled, fungus-ridden, bottom of the gene pool swimming, skunk road kill felching muppet, we've got it now.

Super pumped! I think one of the things that looks great about the trailer is the level of detail makes it convincingly look like you're in a big robot since you can see the normal-sized things below you. Although I enjoyed them, in previous Mech games I sometimes felt like a normal sized person in tiny land.

Also: free Mech4! Awesome. I never did get around to playing the expansions.

anybody got tips on getting mw2/3/4 working in vista?

The original DOS based MW2 will not work in Vista. Even XP needs a DOSbox or similar to get going. Your best bet is to have a hunt around for the Titanium version, which plays out of the box with Windows 95 compatibility on XP. Haven't tried it in Vista or 7, but presumably it'd be a bit broken... certainly worth a shot though.

..Actually, I have a Vista laptop here. Since it's Saturday and I have some spare time, I'm going to see if I can get it running and then report back with how I went. Will edit this post for you. You're welcome

UPDATE: Under Windows Vista SP2, with Titanium CD loaded with Daemon Tools Lite (I keep the original safely in a box); MW2Win.exe set to run under Compatibility mode for Win95 and set to Run As Administrator - works just fine. Go ahead and source a copy, it should work. Cheers.

I reckon I could do this even with a keyboard, but 'smooth' wouldn't be the word I'd use. As long as you get your throttle down to 25% or lower when you hit Reverse (Backspace by default), the mech will only take another step or so forward before back-peddling. Use your Rear camera on one of the HUDs on bottom corners of your screen and you could, with practice, reverse right through a city if you had to. I always used the Default keys with the intention that in the future I could just install this key-hungry game anywhere and just know how to play it out of the box.

Anyway, I'm going to have to close & ignore this thread soon and just hope 2 years passes quickly. Looking forward to MechWarrior's release, whenever it ends up being!!
