there's the real potential that a rebooted Mechwarrior francise could go ballistic - next gen graphics for the computer and console game (they stated many times in the interview how they liked the xbox 360 as it also ran the UT3 engine very well, so it'd be easy to port and also the number of buttons and the dual analogue controls would be very well suited to the game) and the potential for some killer remote control toys for the kids - heck you could even build in IR style weapons for remote control mech wars

Really? What don't you like about UT3 engine?

Bioshock/UT3/R6Vegas... all games i've played that i thought looked and ran fantastic. It supports multicore nicely as well as physx. It gets all thumbs up from me

Damn, UT3 engine... that is good, if Icculus/Ryan Gordon ever finishes the bloody UT3 Linux client... no real chance, but I can dream about a native Linux version of Mechwarrior

Still, the UT3 engine is good IMO - runs very quick on modern hardware (~100 FPS Average on my system below @ 1920x1200, Max Details, DX9c) and provides great visuals to boot.

More love for the MS Sidewinder 3D Pro

You could really come up with some unusual custom mechs in MW2. My favourite was usually all medium lasers and heat sinks - 1 or 2 barrages of 20 lasers to the legs

Or pick the fastest mech and load it up with nothing but machine guns. Get in close (which was sometimes tricky) and unload

Could never understand what use/role the LRM missiles played - they did stuff all damage, and you couldn't target them to particular body parts

LRMs were good for long range lockon.

basically free damage.

'Missile boats' were the best in multiplayer(as in loaded heavily with lrms and ssrms). If you didn't have jets you'd be dead long before you could get any shots off.

If you know what you are doing you can aim them at specific body parts, even get them to curve around and hit them from behind(weaker armour).
Or hit every part of the mech in 1 volley.

I used to load up every single available slot with heavy lasers, 1 pin point barrage to the torso = 1 shot kills.

I found LRMS to be really good to soften up enemy mechs, and finish em off with a few lasers when they get close.

lol iguana... u musta used the heat-cheat.

i just used medium pulse laz0rz.. between 4 and 6 of them on a timber wolf.
jumpjets + fast motor....

rest was heatsinks..

didnt use much armour.. but it would flatten anything you came accross, and it was fast so most things had trouble hitting it.

wow that trailer looks amazing.

im not sold on the missles dont really appear as if they are firing from the chassis at the end of the trailer, but still, other attention to detail is amazing, such as the heat on the end of the laser cannons and deformable terrain!!!

now, if only this was shogo.... peons vs mech mode

Nah i didn't.. its been so long i forgot about the heat issue... i compensated with a fuck load of heat sinks, but yeah, after 1 shot it took a few seconds to cool down, even with overloaded heat sinks.

OMG!!! I just found that the Steel Battalion controller works on the PC for MechWarrior4!! Woohoooo going to hunt me down a copy of MW4 and go co-op with my friend who's got the SB controller too.
Found the info here. http://vt.beckament.net/

Basically the core of UT3 stands for my triple head to be cheating, and rediculous (100 deg) fov limits ensue.

Basically, not an upgrade, but a downgrade to play the fucking game

EDIT:

Of course it's possible for game devs to go against the EPIC's grain, but it never happens.
