Best ghetto repair that I did that unfortunately have no pics for was a power socket on laptop...center post snapped from the socket & I didn't have any desoldering gear, so a RCA socket was attached via a flylead and the lead modded to suit

Old'uns but good'uns.

1 point, plus a bonus point for Dicky's cheesy grin.

Shame no pix of epic-sounding DC socket mod.

EDIT: I am not the sole judge and arbitrator of the "Povo Points" system here. Anyone should feel free to debate the proposed "Povo Value" of these mods (including those that post them), since part of the lulz value of the thread is to debate the relative merits of these ghetto mods...

*nods approvingly*

Most excellent.

Specs/temps/lifespan?

EDIT: Four Povo Points, provided it didn't blow up within a couple of weeks...?

:S I didn't take pictures, I had a dtek block that was intel only, and modded the mounts from an asus silent square evo to hold it on my amd.

Well I've had it about 8 years now, still got half a system in it, don't use it anymore but can easily put it back into use.

Temps were actually pretty good - it's got 2 x 92mm fans in the front, and plenty of ventilation out the back for air to escape. It was also great for noise as it was all enclosed within the chipboard.

The only downside (which can be seen in the picture from behind) is that the 2nd VGA plug didn't quite fit, had to cut up the cable and remove the little screw lug to make it fit, so 2 ghetto mods to accomplish one task!

Do they still sell those 120mm finger chopping fans anymore? Haven't been there for ages.

She may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts kid.

Under the cardboard was a then current e8600 and ATi 3870 both cooled fanlessly by the airflow generated by the cooling tower.

Pic was taken may 2009. I'm still using this system, albeit with a different mainboard, and I'm planning to move the tower across to my new system when I get it.

At some point in time I had a 4gb iram drive powered by a molex sitting next to this for extra ghetto powah. Now I've just got a boring ssd.

Lol! What has been seen, cannot be unseen!

It idles Pretty high, sitting at 33 now. If I load it up on a hot summer day it can get up to 80ish, but it's been doing this on a 24/7 basis for about 2 years so I'm not worried about longevity.

The airflow is mostly based on the temp difference between the cpu and the air temp, so there's more airflow as the cpu gets hotter.

I forgot to post this a while ago but many thanks to BlueRaven.

^ I had to remove this nipple preventing a fan from being mounted to an ACER OEM case and he was kind enough to help me.

^ Here you get a clearer view of how the nipple prevents the fan.

^ DIY ghetto fan filter at the bottom.

^ nipple removed. All in all a job well done. Thanks again to BlueRaven. What a champ. So surprised I had to wait ~3 months for any helpful response.
