I see the site says the stuff that you will buy with real money will be cosmetic only which I find interesting. Wonder if that will hold true because surely they will sell stuff to make you run better than f2p toons.

This is precisely what they don't want to do. I say 'want', because if people don't spend enough on vanity items, they will obviously have to rethink their business model.

For a game that is in closed beta, by a company in New Zealand, that is their first game.

It's far more polished than more open beta's I've been in, or released games I've played.

There's still room for improvement, i think it progresses a bit fast (only level 20) but it's still fun.

Anyone else involved in the beta for this yet that might have a friend key? =)

Looks like the #pathofexile irc channel on freenode.net is a good place to try and source one but i haven't been lucky yet and proxy at work blocks IRC and web IRC clients :<

Someone was streaming the game on justin.tv last night for a while and damn it looks so good... Not sure if I care for Diablo 3 much now who am I kidding I will still buy D3 but this game looks epic.

Got time to play through to level 10 last night.

It is still very much a beta, with integral features missing (like selling to vendors).... but combat is pretty polished. Lag wasn't a gameplay issue, but it was noticeable when melee attacking fleeing enemies.

Skilltree is pretty daunting, but I think hardcore diablo players would love it (I only played d1&d2 offline in SP many years ago, but I did enjoy them).

The whole interface and accessibility side of things is pretty average, and I hope they don't run out of funding for these sort of things and have to push it out as is, because most casual players will get frustrated with the lack of guidance. Once I realised that finishing the second quest wasn't actually supposed to give me a third, and I enjoyed just running around exploring n looting, which in turn had me happen across that third quest

Just when I was about to shut down my computer to leave for work this morning, someone came in to the path of exile IRC channel and pasted a key... Luckily my suddenly racing heartbeat wasn't enough to slow me down to slam that baby to my account page and activate beta

YAY

Now I gotta wait till I get home to crank it up

Got into this beta. I really like this game and I think if any of you guys end up hating D3, you'll find a home here. The skill tree is quite interesting, especially the way they branch and meet. The socket system is quite cool, but can gimp your character (if you don't have the right socket). You can get around this with items in the game which "re-roll" the sockets/stats etc., but it doesn't always work well. But the bonuses you get from them are, simply put, crazy.

In other news, I'm up to 17 on my marauder

Had two awesome yellow 2handers drop within about 5 mins of each other too >.< Everyone says cleave (axes) is better than ground slam (maces)... but I like maces for some reason
