If it's like the inbuilt filters I had on AquaOne tanks, you can just cut filter wool yourself, you don't need the cartridge. You also don't need carbon in the filter, just your bio balls or pellet "thingies" and some wool.

When I got my big tank, I got a canister filter. It was heaps better than the inbuilt filters. I also added sponge filters.

thats why i said you'd end up in a tank around 120+ gallons (120 usa liquid gallons is 450 Litres)
i'm at 560 litres. and looking at it now, should of gone to a 8x2x2 (900L)

Oh shit we just had the bright idea of NOT retiring the 38L tank and instead leaving the current fish in it and setting up the new bigger tank as a new tank entirely. That way we can go a bit more exciting fish that don't need to contend with the Betta...

I don't need another syndrome lol.

Current 38L tank with the 8 fish in it is quite happy and the fish get along really well so I don't think there's an issue keeping that band together.

I'll just have to remake the filter.

Still want the new tank though so now looking for other alternatives.

brand new never had water in it, complete kit, filter the lot 3ft tank stand hood etc
it was mega cheap like $200/250 iirc
i asked the guy why selling so cheap, he looked over shoulder and says very quitely, this was wedding present from ex GF, wife not having in house regardless. must go.

Just about to pull trigger on $800 worth of:

190L tank, stand, eheim 250, 200w heater, led lights and gravel to suit.

Semi local fish shop with really good vibe and friendly staff and plethora of really really nice looking fish stock tanks.

Annerley Aquarium. Not sure on the glass. Haven't bought any fish except another corydora schwartzi for tank 1.

Going to take our time setting up everything.

I swapped out the 200W Aquaone heater for a 150w eheim.

I havent been there in years, but back when i was over that way it was Good shop for fish that one the older bloke (owner ?) seems to know a great deal, just dont ask him dumb questions on a saturday morning when the place is packed to the rafters
as with all LFS its who serves you as to what advice you get ...

with regards to the glass, look at it on an angle and see if it has a green tinge to it. thats not a good sign.
they used to have some custom tanks in the shop that were absolute top quality, but priced accordingly ....

Like i said, second hand can save you a fortune on tanks/filters

Yep - saw the older bloke there but I believe it was his wife that sold us the stuff. She seemed very knowledgeable and was very helpful. That actually went a long way to deciding to buy today.

The glass doesn't appear to have any green. We got one of their custom tanks. Not sure what's so custom about a rectangle but thats what they call them. Pine stand seems good too.

All set up with filter and heater on.

The tank maker.

So the final purchase list was:

- Tank 120cm long ~190L

- Pine stand for tank

- Eheim 150W heater

- Eheim Classic 250 canister filter

- 20kg gravel

- Aquaone 120cm LED light. Has white light and blue light which are switchable.

- 1x Corydora Schwarzi (other tank)
- digital thermometer (it sucks unfortunately)

Total was $860. I'm pretty happy really and given the service we got quite happy to pay a bit more to support a local place.

I also grabbed some new cartridges for the small tank as a set was only $12. It'll buy me time to set up new tank before I have to think about DIY'ing their filter media.

I swapped out one of the two (leaving the old skanky one in the tank) and within an hour the water is all but pristine again. Amazing the difference.

Now to work out what fish to get!
