That's been my issue with ATI/AMD cards.

There have been times when they made amazing hardware. I had a 5870 and a 7970 (2 in crossfire actually) amongst others, and they shat all over nVidia's offerings at the time from a raw hardware performance perspective.

But - issues that i always seemed to get with ATI/AMD which i have never had with nVidia, were honestly laughably poor drivers, and coil whine. Which, despite the performance, kind of ruins the experience.

Ive never had an AMD GPU. Not because I don't want to, but I use an alternative OS in everyday use with my desktop and Nvidia is more compatible with it.

When I looked the other day it seemed fairly inline with local retailers.

You'd probably just want to use it if you want to get the XpXXXPPPXXPXP cards. For the Ti, I don't know why you'd want to get the reference cards. For example, for $20 more you can get the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Gaming OC 11GB which is likely to run cooler and quieter, and factory OC.

Got my EVGA 1080ti FTW3 for that price o/s. Why would I get stock standard if Im not w/c it?

Having said that, I am FOR the idea of having more options for us consumers to buy products from.

Cmon, absolute claims like that are silly. Yes there have been many instances where issues have arisen, but a classic example which defies that argument is the ftw3, which has been labelled 'over engineered for its capabilities (yes it could be a result of the previous cockups by the company).
