Made my decision, getting the one xl on the Telstra plan. That way I get 4G and the phone did actually feel faster than the one x. The x model had a fair bit of jitter when going between tabs and so fourth. 4g was also awesomely quick, faster than home internet even xD thanks all for your help and feedback.

I have been testing Telstra with a JB-HIFI prepaid sim card in my Galaxy note vs Virgin in Sydney Area , and most of the time Telstra is equal too or better than Virgin but virgin is fine for call and data , no real issues. so I sticking with the BYO Virgin Big Plan 29 for $19 per month $450 call and 2.25GB of data.

Although you may sign up to Telstra's 4G network it's not available in all locations so quite often you maybe only able to access the 3G network which is terribly slow compared to 4G. An example is
DL 3649kbps. UL 1033kbps in a 3G area on a 4G plan.
DL 40,164kbps. UL 11,241kbps in a 4G area on a 4G plan.
these tests were done using speedtest, net on a Samsung Sll (1.5Ghz duel core) mobile.
Going on to Telstra's 4G network doesn't guarantee fast internet speeds. Check with Telstra if 4G is available in your area first.

They don't exactly hide the fact it's only in CBD's and some airports.
Quote:
Typical download speeds in capital city CBDs, associated airports and selected regional areas are from 2Mbps to 40Mbps. Capital CBD means within 5km from the GPO and within 3km from the town centre for regional locations. When outside the 4G areas, your BigPond USB 4G device will automatically switch over to Telstra's 3G network and speed ranges will be less
Their 3G speeds still crap all over other networks though

I know this, but I'm in the city a lot of the time anyway so I'd get 4G when I need it, I'm fine with 3G at home.

Only a couple of weeks before my plan expires and I get my new phone, bought a stylus the other day, can't wait to offload the old Wildfire s...
