Did they come with Thiele-Small parameters, or are you just guestimating the box size?

Yes there is a full set of acoustic parameters, Hertz is good with providing that info.

It is going to end up being a liter smaller than the optimum internal volume but thats because I was restricted by what I had laying around. Granted if I did the project again and was entirely serious about it and wasn't just using stuff I had in my room and garage. I would make the box match perfectly too the drivers.

In fact I have plans for a box or rather pair of tower speakers in the future. Made entirely out of mdf but finished in matt white platidipp, with bare seas and hivi drivers on show.

Yeah, it shits me when they don't fucking include TS specs. Or when they leave one out - like Vas or Fo.

I've got some Mark Audios 6.5" woofers and 1" tweets from Darcher I'd put in a box if I didn't suck at woodwork.

even with the TS parameters unfortunately they are designed for small car cabin. with the woofer at your feet so the design is less than optimal. But nice effort, those boxes look verrry solid.

I've read somewhere that, because of the small-cabin design, people like using car speakers to make near-field monitor-type speakers.

This is all still just gear I had lying around haha
For the more technical the speakers will have a qtc of 0.84 and an f3 point of 114Hz. None it may be perfect but for spare parts it shouldn't be too bad. After all I use my headphones (q701s) most often and A5+ bookshelves if I wanna fill my room/house with tunes.

Anyway back to the now steampunk design, do we have any thoughts on that guys?

Edited the grill to reflect the rings I think I will remove.

It along with the metal cabinet corners will be painted copper in colour.

Could do with a few tweaks but it's a good start .

I think anyone looking into their first DIY speakers should checkout one of the Vifa P17 D25/D27 plans. There are plenty of variations around, some bookshelf, minitower, MTM fulltower, etc. Fairly forgiving drivers and relatively cheap if you shop around.

Rated TS specs and actual measured can be quite different.

Looks like a nice effort!

The B&G's are planar and are supposed to be mounted vertically due to very poor (almost non existant) vertical dispersion characteristics. Unless you are perfectly on axis, which I suppose is quite likely in a nearfield scenario, then they won't perform very well.

Nice tweeters though, I have a pair.

Do you guys now understand this project is because i had this stuff lying around? I picked it up at different points and decided to just dump it all together.

The neo 3s are nice set of tweeter they are not mounted right yes but there is limited space and its not a permenent home as I have mentioned they will end up in the a pillars of my car in a fiberglass home in which they will be properly angled, be sitting vertically and will also have an active crossover.

Edit: I forgot the update bit haha

and again no these aren't perfect and they aren't meant to be :P

The work has well dropped of entirely haha its been wet and miserable and with dry areas been taken up by the painting of things for the ensuite renovations I haven't gotten too much done on either of the projects I have currently going.

Atm I have just been cannibalizing my old pos logitech x530s and have been getting them ready to use as the speakers in my arcade cabinet. because i haven't been able to finish the cutting the wood for the cabinet I cant yet grab the spare stuff to do the steampunk design I have in mind atm.

Here is a little mock up i sketched quickly the other day

Atm I cannot find where i put any of the metal cabinet corner protectors I had about 20 somewhere but cant even find one now. I do have some copper paint though for when I find stuff.

I have yet to fire it up at all but maybe I will this weekend but nothing is fixed with the renovations going on.
