IMO $200 is still a valid amount to spend... Considering you will be getting an online universe at no subscription costs...

Compare to full priced MMO with $15 a month? It add's up quickly. $200 is nothing if you look at what your getting, something that has never been attempted at this scale before. Not even going into the transparent dev cycle and the fundraiser goals which you have feel you have a direct impact in.

If your expecting the world at $65 and you have a difficult time starting up it will be your own fault. But who knows, I think the value of having a ship i want to start in is definitely worth the spend as it will define the rest of my time in the game (like or dislike).

Fact is you can always trade your ship, if you have LTI you will make a profit SC is still very healthy as it stands.

Not that I condone it.

No, and it won't be a finished product for many more years at this stage.

While there's is nothing formal by way of "GET READY FOR THIS DATE" on the site (they may have finally learnt their lesson there), in every interview with Chris Roberts (there are many) has been saying everything is on track for the first solo/campaign mission (Squadron 42 bit) being ready to play in September 2015 and Persistent Universe (Star Citizen bit) launching in Q2 2016.

Recently, RSI seem to be doing their best to shut down these, which look at least somewhat legit and back up that time frame.

***SPOILER ALERT*** (potential names of SQN42 missions included)

To be fair, the first "major release" was 3-4 weeks late, the last one before 1.1 was two weeks late. 1.1 was about a week late. They seem to be improving.

I was under the impression it was actually about a year late going by their initial schedule when i first backed it....

Holy crap!
They're doing pretty good though (the devs) if average users are spending 100.
Protip, don't read the comments section

Average user spending $100 is pretty good news, means that the majority of players haven't invested stupid sums that will lead to crazy entitlement.

I haven't really been keeping up with this lately (mainly because no DK2 support) but had a look at the site yesterday and saw they're nearly at $79mil, that's fucking crazy!! They'll probably go past the billion dollar mark. I'm all for what they're doing, the game they're trying to make and how they're doing it but it's mind boggling the amount of money people are pouring into this.

Edit: btw I originally got the cheapest package to get alpha access which was USD 45 and that was almost purely me throwing my support into it. With a few exceptions most games on steam I'll pay $5-10, I've probably spent ~$500 on iRacing but that's been over nearly 7 years.
Ok I've just proven I'm a cheapskate

Only just found out about this game... so uhm, how much is it going to cost to buy / play at the cheapest level, and is it a monthly fee or annual fee, or will it be pay to upgrade (or can you upgrade through time invested)?

I liked Freelancer, so as long as it's a one off fee or annual fee to keep servers running (and a "nominal" fee to buy the game), I'll be happy.
