I hope the backdrops in the final game don't look like that, it's always a massive immersion-breaker for me -- space does not look like that to the naked eye.

It was just an AI sample, the rest is mockups. The real universe is not near ready yet, nor are the lighting/weapon effects or anything. Chris said with the release of this video to disregard it as none is remotely final.

Broke the $4.2M crowdfunding for a game record, and now well on the way to 4.5. With 40 hours to go, will be interesting to see how far it gets.

Another gameplay video:



A short video of the AI of Star Citizen attacking and defending the Bengal Class Carrier. It demonstrates intelligent collision avoidance - a dense asteroid field, other space ships, including a large capital ship plus offensive and defensive roles.

NOTE: This is very early pre-pre Alpha. There was a bug with laser bolt speed in this build and they were incorrectly capped at a very low speed. That is not how they will behave in the game. But we thought the video was awesome enough to show you anyway!

Nice. I hope we are seeing both a rebirth of the space sim and a message to the industry. PC gamers will open their wallets but you need to make the games PC gamers want, and that is not poor quality ports of console games. 5 million may be a drop in the ocean compared to the amounts of revenue AAA titles generate, but this was 5 million contributed by gamers to a game that is at best 2 years away.

I'm too lazy to search for the answer to this but can you get out of your spaceship and shoot guns and shit? Or is it just a space combat game?

I believe you can board other ships and that's 1st/3rd person. It was one of the stretch goals which was meet, IIRC. It was described as like the opening scene in Star Wars.
