Blokes, FWIW I've ordered a new machine that can print a much larger object - 225 x145 x150 millimetres they reckon and it's got twin extruders so I can make objects with two colours at the same time.

I'd love to get one of these made up if anyone can help -

Haven't seen 3d printing up close though, do they look smooth when done and if not can they be sanded smooth and painted?

Erp, it's quite large.
Waaay too large for my current printer and I suspect a bit too large for the new one I haven't got yet.
Yes they can be sanded smooth.

Based on the comment it looks like the original author made his using a rep 2? I haven't check the STL but I would think that would fit.

Hey guys,

I have a RepRapPro Huxley available to do small prints in white or black PLA

Maximum build size is 135mm [X] x 135mm [Y] x 80mm [Z] - can print down to 0.2mm Z-layer height.

I am also able to assist with taking 2D designs or concept sketches into 3D designs with CAD files provided in nearly any format you'd want.

So if anyone is interested, shoot me a PM.

P.S. I am hoping to get my Ultimaker running again soon - it can do something like 200mm x 200mm x 200mm down to 0.025mm Z-layer height.

Can confirm it will fit on a Replicator 2 and possible to do in 1 print if you don't mind the risk of having it print over the edge.

The new printer arrived - it's got two extruders so I can do two colours in the same print and the print platform is nearly twice the size.
It'll take me a few days to get it all sorted.

I've got a filament in ABS that's supposed to print pretty clear.
Depending on skin thickness, etc, it'd be about $60.00

I'm after some 3D printing, but I'm new to this so I'm mostly after some preliminary info.

I'm doing a PC case mod using the same principle as Connect-It. Plastic corner pieces that get joined up with square tube aluminium. They looks like this:

They only make them for 25mm square tubing, which is fine for furniture but a bit chunky for a PC case. So I'd like to try it with parts made for 16mm or 12mm square tubing.

The original 25mm piece is hollow with 3.5mm thick plastic. I don't know what type of plastic it is but it looks injection moulded.

Is there anything tricky I need to know before I learn Blender? Support struts, wall thickness, etc? Or is this as straightforward as it looks?

Just curious, I'm sure someone here could answer, but I'll soon need to prototype some cases for an electronics design I'm working on - for a casing that about 3.5 x 3.5 x 1.0cm, open on one side so the PCB can go in and then be filled with epoxy, roughly how much in material for a 3D printer is this going to cost?

I have no idea how much they use.
