I'm eager to see what AMD is going to release

For my video editing / rendering I would love to be able to buy an affordable 8 core system with higher performance. A 2011 platform is just too expensive for me.

I will buy a Zen on AM4 just for fun if its not a complete balls up like Bulldozer.

Come on AMD!

Yeah I have a Q6600 that is due for an update. If Zen is half decent I'll probably get it

I'll wait and see, get them to iron out all the bugs first, but very keen to build an AMD multi-core machine.

Just because the games run doesn't mean they don't need more cpu, check this out:

http://www.gamersnexus.net/game-benc...nce-difference

That's just one example, huge fps jump with a faster cpu.

I don't deny this - I'm currently playing older games - 80-90 fps

That's how you beat the upgrade race, play old games. Fallout 3 when everyone plays Fallout 4. Fully maxed out, patched, all add-ons and guides ready to go

Since when was bulldozer a complete 'balls up'? considering sabotage from Intel's compiler used in a LOT of benching, gaming software back when it was released.

Which ever way you spin it, Bulldozer was late to market and underperformed.

I believe the insinuation is that Bulldozer actually had the right performance behind it however Intel knowingly or unknowingly sabotaged AMD as the compiler Intel provided at the time if a non-Intel CPU was detected a vastly inferior execution method was used (I'm uncertain if this compiler is still in use for anything released today).

So yes Bulldozer may have come a bit late but perhaps the poor gaming/benchmarking performance was not AMD's fault.

Presuming there are no major issues with the 14nm FinFET process, AMD expects...

CPU version
=> Coming end of 2016. (4th Quarter, Holiday season).
(FX version will be early production samples).
=> Multiple SKUs over time: 4-, 6-, and 8-core versions.
=> FX version first, followed by Opteron version.

APU version
=> Coming mid-2017. (18 months from now).
(A-series version will be when they hit mass volume production).
...Remember folks, don't waste your money on any APU in 2016; as that is NOT Zen-based!

Both processor versions will use Socket AM4.

Socket AM4 will replace all current AMD sockets. (AM3+, FM2+, and AM1)

Sologuy previously mentioned the massive increase in bandwidth for APU variant...AMD wants to take the mainstream notebook and desktop markets with Zen APUs in 2017; By offering console-like (Playstation 4 and XBOX ONE) graphical performance to the notebook market.

You can also expect AMD to equip the Zen-based line with a new stock cooler. Its named "Wraith"; features four copper heat-pipes, and is rated for 125W processors.

As you can see, AMD is going all-out for Zen...Only time will tell if it pays off.

there more to it than that intel 2600k still flogs the fx 8150 just as it did 4 years ago despite being almost a year older
hell 2600k is still better than anything amd has today as far as games go its faster at stock in most games and once overclocked its well in front of fx9590 in most games
x264 rendering is another mater and performs fairly well on amd until you look at performance per watt
http://pclab.pl/art55934-3.html
the biggest problem amd had was performance per core\watt being so low and very little software making good use of multithreading

its a shame we wont be seeing zen till 2017 i was really hoping to upgrade my system in the next 6 months
although if its performance per core is still a little low vs intel then maybe amd should wait till some dx12 games come out
