True, I will wait for the rest of the benchmark results to come out.

Where are the motherboards at for this gen CPU? Price? ETA to drop?

We're not likely to see these in Aus by start of Jan, right?

Should have had boards before Ryzen drops, Socket AM4 in combination with Bristrol Ridge was supposed to get people ready.

Hoping for some solid ITX or smaller boards.

150 samples:

1:11 - 2700k @ 4.6

100 samples:

0:49 - 2700k @ 4.6

If the performance holds true might upgrade server's AMD sempron 145

Thought i'd throw in, what was probably the last decent mainstream CPU AMD had, the x4 955 (i know i'll get hate for that).

AMD x4 955 @ stock (3.2ghz), 150 samples, 3:12.40

Definitely looking forward to Ryzen then, think i'm due for an upgrade, as for pricing, as long as i can afford it, and it's comparable to Intel, i'll buy it, it doesn't have to be massively cheaper for me, as I'd prefer AMD, but i'm not tied to it, so if doesn't stack up, i'll get Intel.

From what I've seen so far, this is how I think it's going to play out. Ryzen will provide similar multi-threaded performance to i7-6900K, but single-threaded will be a little lower. Intel will drop the price of the i7-6900K to compete and AMD's competing level chip will be 10-20% less than the updated price.

Anyone thinking that Ryzen will be 30-40% cheaper are just dreaming and setting themselves up for disappointment. I also can't see them beating Intel in performance at any level, not on their first revision of this new chip/architecture.

Vega looks promising as well, and I can see this matching or beating nVidia. Regardless, this release of Zen and Vega are warm ups, the real battle will start when everything gets updated a year from now!

Well the chip did have Turbo disabled and a TDP of 90 Watts or so. So there is a big question mark about how far it can turbo up.

Looking promising so far. Now we just need to see some more about the highend chipset.

I think there's good reason to think AMD could easily charge 30-40% less than Intel charges: Because Intel is massively price gouging as it is, because they can.
Well, when Zen releases they won't be able to any more.

Remember when Bulldozer released, and Intel responded by actually increasing their prices?

Was that because bulldozer had so much hype and flopped badly?

Nah man. 1090 was a beast and still cheap as.

People way overstate intel's lead in real world performance esp in games.

not for bulldozer unfortunately you suffer from quite bad minimums as there are easily hit glass jaws with bulldozer that cause large stalls.

Lol, you do realise an 8 core AMD cpu is slower than a Intel quad and in gaming using a AMD cpu it's great if you don't mind stuttering or really bad minimum fps

I think the point is the're still capable of 60Hz gaming most of the time -

Especially newer titles that are making more use of threads. You could say, it's aged well all things considered. But so has Sandy Bridge.

If really low minimums are still no less than ~60FPs then you're not really losing anything in the real world by not upgrading.

With 120/144hz becoming more and more mainstream though, there deficit is becoming more apparent.

I had the Phenom 2 x6 1090T... It was a terrific chip.
It didn't really come into it's own untill you pushed the NB clock to 3ghz which in some circumstance increased single threaded performance by a good 15%.. Which allowed it to be competitive with Nahelem.

And at 4ghz it had years of life left in it, it was faster than most stock Bulldozer and Piledriver chips.

Whilst games like Civilization 5 enjoyed the 6 cores on the Phenom 2... Games like StarCraft 2 would fold in a custom game with a ton of entities running around on the map, mostly thanks to the game only being dual-threaded.

And in many other games, it wasn't able to give me full 100% utilization on all my Crossfired Radeons, so I upgraded to a 3930K.
The difference was night and day. Not only did I gain twice as many threads which aided video encoding/transcoding... But each Core was 40% to twice as powerful and I got full utilization out of my cards.

Doesn't make the Phenom 2/Bulldozer bad, they are great budget chips, Intel was (And still is) far far better though.
