true but a 1700 goes for $469 and a Gigabyte GA-AB350-Gaming 3 Motherboard goes for $179 so just over $600(you can get cheaper b350 board and get it just on 600 but i like the look of this one)

i think that for what you get is pretty good value but hey that's me
then again you can get a 7700k and a crappy board for about the same...at least you have some choice now

yup this is the best thing about this release. We have that good choice now. we either want full on gaming competitors box or a dedicated workstation or an all rounder.

i am saying that with a caveat...i believe the 1700 is by far the best value...paying the 699 for the 1800x or even 569 for the 1700x the value drops quite a bit in my opinion BUT i care all kinds of less i wanted the 1800x ....for once in my life i wanted a top tier chip from a company...
i was going to get a 6950k...but they said my last kidney wasn't worth enough....damn black market

Dirty 3.9GHz run and seems stable, 4GHz requires WAAAY more V's and the VRM heat sink gets HOT so 4GHz aint worth the extra 100MHz for all the extra V's n heat it generates.

Hurriedly put together my MSI Tomahawk and 1700 together tonight, had issues with 3.9 but it's sitting at 3.8 fine. Will play around some more tomorrow on 3.9.

Still got the Taichi on order, but for the majority of people I think the B350's are going to be where the real value is (and paired with a 1600/1600x)

Getting a fairly stable 3.8Ghz with the 1700.
http://valid.x86.fr/fkw0gl

She falls off at 3.9Ghz, however I can't seem to figure out how to manually set some voltages on this motherboard (ASUS AM4 ATX Prime B350-PLUS). I wouldn't recommend it for overclocking.

More testing, having to bump vcore to get Prime 95 stable, last settings prime threw out an error on 3 cores after 28 minutes with 1.3V so bumpity bump up she goes

can you guys try something with your cpu's.

My 1700 has a default boost speed of 3.7GHz. I went into bios and set the cpu speed to 3700 and left vcore voltage on auto which is default 1.192v. Re booted and went into windows and all power saving features for cpu seem to be enabled, vcore will go up and down and so will core speed.

Now when I test with prime cpu speed goes straight to 3.7Ghz and vcore doesn't go higher than 1.192v and seems completely stable atm.

Before if I left cpu speed on auto in bios when testing under prime core speed would only be 3.2Ghz??? with same volts??

So give it a try, set your cpu's default boost speed and leave vcore on auto and see whay you get in windows under prime and then compare to what it would be if cpu speed is left to auto in bios.

Just be interesting to see if results are similar across the board.

3.7GHz set in bios with auto vcore = 1.192v in windows under load with prime and 53C load temp and vcore drops with core temp when idle.

3.9Ghz set in bios with 1.325 vcore = 1.320v in windows under load with prim and 64C load temps plus vcore always remains at 1.320v even when idle.

Is the extra 200MHz worth it lol.
