assuming they dont soldier the higher core variants which are coming out later in teh year.

I watched a video today on youtube(red gaming tech) I believe it was this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2bZyiu3LII

saying the TIM is there because these CPUs were rushed to get out the door and later in the year they may switch to being soldered across the line.

that being said I won't have a problem de lidding the i7-7800 if it is needed -- I probably wouldn't on anything higher though

the over clock at 4.6ghz @1.22v had the temps under check on a 10 core CPU with an 240mm AIO water cooler but it will be interesting to see some more results

I can't for the life of me understand the decision at Intel to use TIM on their HEDT platform.

The reviews at the moment are a bit weird and I guess it's part of the problem with X299, where you have a lot of reviews of Kaby Lake-X.

I don't really see anyone getting a X299 platform to get this CPU unless they plan to overclock, but then you need to delid it to get the most out of it. But then it uses more power than a 7700k and is worse in gaming benchmarks.

or sell the haswell-e system and get skylake x

or both, haha.

keen to have a play with this platform, but cant say im keen to 'upgrade' to this platform

Should we start taking bets on if it will last longer than the Ryzen system you had

I'm sold on the 7820x, I don't mine sitting on my GTX1080/1080p@144hz for 12 month until Volta's Ti version.
Guru3D's 7900x review was done with a GTX1080 too.

Also the 1080p performance is impressive..

Oh yeah PCCG have them listed.

PC case gear is bending early adopters over, vs new egg prices, ill wait until a more palatable price from MSy./Umart before I order.

The Asrock x299 Tachi looks like what I'll end up getting.

Yeah, again not till mid July for me anyway.
But it gives you a rough idea what it's going to set you back.

Still tossing up on the 7800k or the 7820k, they both look really good for what I'm doing.

A little video encoding/sound editing and gaming.
The current 7700k doesn't cut it for workloads since owning a x99 build...

Oh man, I don't know which to get, the Strix or the TUF Mark 1....

The TUF has more USB ports and M.2 cooling, but no Q-Code LED's.
