Whose kidding?

And the cost of Australian consumer legal protections.

I'm going to hold off just long enough for Threadripper to dent the pricing (and hock a kidney or three)
the Australian prices these jokers are charging is what you were referring to not the difference in the cost over the generations dont change your tune now

Like I said buy a decent brand that wants to keep its good reputation like asus/gigabyte with international warranty and local support and you wont need the overpriced "Australian consumer protection" and can buy from any where that is the cheapest with relative confidence. If I buy Asrock -- I will only buy locally.

BTW the ACL does technically apply when buying from a place like newegg who do ship to Australia on all their brands as they have Australian presence some brands are in austrlian warehouses with like Asus / MSI where prices are similar to the USA include GST , have all the protections and have cheap shipping ($12 on an ausa board) as they are shipped from Aus.

oh and again much cheaper than these clowns.

Meh, I dont like these stores blatantly gouging us but it is not limited to PCCG and scorptech Don't get me started on the 1070GTX prices lately

All prices at umart have gone up by $60-80 across the board per card and dont get me started on game dude the biggest rip off merchant of them all --- wanting $799 for any GTX 1070 at the moment.

the only way things will change is if we vote with our wallets and dont shop at these stores

I bet they all advertise "32gbit m.2 speeds per slot!" While casually ignoring the massive bottleneck between CPU and chipset...

What a disaster of a platform for motherboard manufacturers.

Adding a better CPU will give you the PCIe slots but won't fix the chipset functionality problems

I think this platform makes even X99 look like a better alternative...

Edit: On the plus side it OCs well if you delid I guess.

I don't get kabylake-X at all. Good to have something <$1000us for BIOS updating I guess? I have an icky feeling they'll "remedy" the confusing situation by killing off the 7700K successor on the mainstream platform...

The delidded die shot of a 7740x looks ridiculous. Reminds me of a massive add-in board from like 25-30 years ago

farkenell I just got a MXM 1070 shipped from the US for a tad less than that! A LAPTOP GPU completely unavailable through normal retail channels!

Call me a creature of habit, MSY burnt their bridges with me, Umart sucks locally so I generally stick to them with some purchases from Scorptec.
The PCCG guys know now when I say something is dead, it's dead and get to the RMA quickly.

Either way wherever we buy our stuff from it's going to be good..

I'm a little turned off on the Strix by the reviews I've been reading, I might throw in the extra and get a Asus x299 Prime Deluxe.
i buy from Scorptec, then PLE/PCCG, then the rest only if i must

Im not a tightwad, happy to pay a little extra for great service, and peace of mind warranty

(i also hate dealing with MSY and CPL, as their staff are predominately of non English speaking background, and their shit pc knowledge and crappy english can make it difficult)

Total ive spent to Date @ Scorptec $ 36,532.48
First Purchase 31/08/17

wowz0r

Looks like the OCAU discount applies to the x299 cpu's and MSI motherboards!

Hows that work exactly?

I have been buy from PCCG for years now, never had a problem with them.

Bought my GTX1080 Strix from Scroptech and that was painless even though I changed my mind like 10 times as there was never any stock on launch, but again couldn't be more helpful.

Like you I don't mind paying a little extra for great service and quick RMA's.

honestly, most people on here are reading this are enthusiasts and should know what they are ordering/buying and probably don't need in-depth knowledge which is why I like MSY / Umart / MEgabuy. I have never bought at Scorptech though so cant say what they are like but their costs/postage prices do put me off , but I would guess hey are not too dissimilar to Computer alliance.

Also if you buy certain brands like Asus / Gigabyte in Australia you can send directly back to their service centres, which is all these retailers do making the service even quicker as your cutting out the middle man and their testing / internal procedures. Asus even pay for the courier to pick the gear up. Some people like going back to the retailer but my experince this usually just adds weeks onto the total time the item is away.

I buy large amounts of gear from Umart and Megabuy, which is why I like dealing with them as I dont usually have any issues.

They offer cheap prices for people who know what they want, I have ordered from PCCG things which Umart/ MSY dont carry (like WC gear) but the postage costs put me off buying from them.

Also their customer service is not that good with a very narrow window that you can actually call them, and on my last order I had to fight them to get it pulled and cancelled before it was shipped out ( admittedly I ordered an incorrect part )

I just ordered over $30k of gear from Megabuy in one order

And here you are complaining about local stores charging a bit more than US stores.

Holy shit they are a good $150 cheaper than PCCG for the build I was looking at.
It's still cheaper than PCCG's item cost with Scorptech's freight charge on top.

Guess who I'm going with now...
