I love and hate the ticket game.
Honestly - I can't wait to go back to a rigid ticketing system again for a while. The idea that i have 1 place to look for a list of my tasks feels incredibly refreshing.

It wont be permanent - but a change is as good as a holiday.

My wife got angry when I told her to put a ticket in when she wanted me to mow the lawn...

No ticket, and the Lawn still isn't mowed.

There's a dead animal somewhere in the office. The AC is cycling the smell around everywhere. I have another 2 hours of this. Kill me.

That doesn't sound healthy. I think I'd be telling my manager that I don't feel well.

LOLOLOLOL......... - after the ticket is raised does it get analysed and then passed to L2 or straight to L3 to sit in their queue until "their good and ready"?

It should get assigned to the subordinates once they are bigger...

I'm looking at ways to automate it though... God-Damn robots stealing Chores from kids... no wonder they all do drugs.

Automation.....done:
http://www.husqvarna.com/au/products...c-lawn-mowers/

Make the kids see if they can "hack it" as their chore - once they find the backdoors sell the knowledge back to the manufactures.

As I said before, a ticketing system won't overcome inherent stupidity.

People can absolutely abuse it, but I'd rather a central location that's open to the eyes of many people any day over and above one-to-one emails, lost communications, Chinese whispers, and all the other shit that happens without a ticketing system.

The sad thing was, the employees were the ones suffering.

It was a medical company, so doctors on the board. That meant that every ticket submitted by a doctor was priority 1: no exceptions.

So really, doctors' BYOD macs not working and extinction-level events were the only tickets ever actioned, because as long as the SLA for p1 tickets was met, then the service desk was seen as operating correctly.

Meanwhile, the service desk personnel were slowing going bonkers.

"Do you know who I am?"

Executive Support isn't a new/difficult thing - but typically you get a different team to handle this.

This attitude is also present in EDU.

That's standard for any fuckup. Really, what else are you there for other than to make the business work and assist the employees?

Consider any business fuckup, IT or otherwise, in the history of any business you've ever worked for. Ultimately employees suffer (even if it's second hand through angry customers).

That also happens everywhere. Trivial people appeal to emotion, and the way to counter them is to go with hard numbers. Does the problem affect one person (regardless of title)? One team? One department? One region? One business? Priority is quickly whittled down to hard numbers when you ask simple questions, and keep egos out.

But of course, you need strong management to back that up. Weak management will fold like a lawn chair, and if you work for people like that, then you need to make the hard choice of whether you put up with it, or move on.

Been there, done that, never regretted moving on.

Yes. These are actually very very common musings from Academia/Doctors.
