Broccoli I know what you mean, I might have to do some homework on the phoneline when I move in and see who connected it. Also I haven't tried cable before , I might do some research cheers.

The phoneline is Telstra. Telstra does all the phonelines. But to get broadband, you need to buy it from a company that has got a spare port in your exchange. That might be Telstra, or another company. It's not the line you need to find out about, it's port availability in your exchange. If you know the exchange, you can search for which companies have ports there, then it's just a question of ringing each up and see if they've got one available.

If you can get cable, that'd be a good option.

Try putting the rental address in here and use the results as a starter to see what ADSL2 providers may have to offer on the exchange.

Red face

Thanks guys! Went with Telstra Naked Cable (No telephone fees a month) $59 which includes 40 gb a month (No peak or offpeak) and is not on a contract. Also comes with their free wireless router, and I chose to set it up yourself pack which is $198 which includes the router. I rang TPG and tried Internode online and a few other sites but they told me I was out of their area and could only connect with mobile broadband

What do you guys reckon? Sounds ok? Now good luck to me setting it up xD Good with computers/ Building etc but when it comes to the internet, I've never set up a router before.

Router will set up its own Gateway, DNS settings etc.

If you're using network cable, just plug it in and it automatically assigns IP address's per device (ie. 192.168.0.2 yada yada).

For Wireless, you'll need to set up the wireless part, choose WAP2 and set a User name/password, done.

To access the router, usually its 192.168.0.1 in the web browser.

Cable's faster than anything through the telephone line, so that should be good Also, as you're not on a contract (since when does Telstra let you do THAT? Good show) you can always try something else if it doesn't live up to your expectations.

Thumbs up

http://broadbandguide.com.au/bigpond...e-40gb-liberty

Found it on online doing some homework a few people said on whirlpool you have to mention it to Telstra for them to be able to provide this to you. I asked Telstra for a Casual plan of course they don't mention it, (They speak about their 24 month contract), I'm stoked I didn't have to get the full 24 month contract.

Thanks all for all for all of your input xD The router will be straight forwards hopefully

Yeh haha i Googled it up and that site is no longer available. By the way all I worked out the the router took me 30 mins to configure with my own router name and changed the standard password with Wep etc, And went to the download test page and says the download speed max is 28 mbps, Which Sounds good I suppose ^^ 2-4 mb a sec each download so I'm happy

40gb is pretty shit though, I think my wife uses more in a coupla days watching Youtube. Might want to see if you can bump that up a few hundred or so.

Yer not heaps, but we don't use the internet for downloading a whole heap, Will see how it goes if we need more we can upgrade to a higher amount. I would have preferred Adsl 2 It's slower but, It would have been cheaper, But we couldn't get it in our area.
