While this information is about 2 years old, it's still an interesting read and may contain some ideas of the future Xbox...

Whilst interesting it's not really surprising considering the way the industry is moving.
MS should have moved to corner the central media player ages ago, but if they nail the codecs correctly this time so it's at least as good as a WDTV or equiv they might see a number of people consolidating back to one device and buying in to extra features. |

Ah, The Cloud™. It'll cure cancer. Or bring back virtual reality, apparently.

Nothing exciting there. "Gen 8 consoles will be faster than gen 7 consoles".
Somewhat interesting is Microsoft finally admitting defeat and including BluRay. But other than that, it's going to be obvious that all the console companies are going to do a big push towards downloadable titles and trying to offer an all-encompassing media service. And it's equally as obvious that the next gen of consoles will be faster, and offer higher definition graphics as a result.

End Rant. So glad some new consoles are coming through, we'll be back to bashing console scrubs, and all the "glorious pc gaming master race" hatemongering in no time. ![]() Seriously though, I hope these consoles actually support 1920x1080 with anti aliasing, and hopefully at 60fps or so. It is not hard to achieve with current tech. Mostly I'm looking forward to the fact that PC games might actually require hardware upgrades again...

The 56 page doc you linked appears to have been taken down. Damn.

MS seems pretty keen to keep the 720 around for a while, and they *cannot* do the sensible thing and have a reasonable (<5 years) lifespan for it, because all the 360 customers will shit. |

Dunno how they will manage a $299 release price point though especially if it includes bluray.

My impression was that MS was more in support of digital distribution being the competition to bluray. Supporting HDDVD was more about helping the enemy of your enemy. Having bluray support is just the sensible thing to do with your next gen console, its not like they can use DVD, HDDVD is dead, next gen tech is probably a while off and a lot of markets aren't really ready for pure digital distribution.

I wouldn't be surprised if they just buy the oculus rift 3d glasses company out as well - saves competition when you can just own the competition. |
