I have a glass bowl full of Pet Rocks*

*not actual pet rocks, but pebbles that crows would leave in my garden.

But, I prefer something a bit different. And in this instance, 100% agree with "Uncle Bumblefuck" - build/create/make stuff with your hands. The need to fidget is just the unrequited need to create. Who cares what it is - sculpture, pottering, drawing, painting, furniture, a house, arcade machines - it doesn't matter. Creating stuff feels good, and is good for us. The desire to fidget is your subconscious telling you you aren't being satisfied by your current level of creativity. And no, it doesn't matter if what you create is good or functional or useful. That's not even the point. Just create something.
More for work honestly. Home is easy as I have lots of things to occupy myself but work is a bit harder when I'm stuck under a fluro lit desk. I see it as a potential to distract that restless fidgety part of my brain that gets bored from sitting still for too long.

Says a lot about your job if it's driving you to find distraction during the day. Perhaps a chat with your boss about taking on something different/extra to prevent your boredom?

I think it just says more about myself, my terrible attention span and difficulty focusing on things. When I do get locked on something however I end up with hyper focus.

The well off / and real estate agents trying to appear well off had car phones...

We all used things called pay phones, when we had to. We didn't need to keep in constant contact with everyone and somehow we survived!

The WWW, on the whole, didn't exist either.
People got so much more actual "stuff" done...

Anyone who had ANY computer experience could pretty much slot into an "IT" job. Got a computer at home? Jeez what a nerd. OK, you're our guy...

The only thing that shits me off about fidget spinners is that I saw them when they first came out, and dismissed them just as quickly - instead I should've jumped on it and imported a bunch to sell before the arse fell out of the market on eBay.
