Both have advantages but I'm used to the intel. AMD is easiest at first though I admit. How many times do use the retention though. I'd rather a hard retention but a quiet and high performing cooler.

The retention mechanism matters when in 3 years time the cpu socket develops a bad contact due to flexing the board like spaghetti or if a pin breaks causing overheating.
Hands up who's come across dead 775 boards? Btw my A8-3870 came with the lightest and most basic of the AMD coolers and easily handles a 10% cpu/ 33% gpu clock with the fan at it's lowest possible speed.

![]() If you want to discuss 775, let's compare fairly. Can you explain why the AM2 cooler was so noisy and fails to dissipate heat?

I didn't build either of those two 775 systems, came across them because they were dead.
Also ever wondered why OEMs like Dell and Lenovo use custom screw mountings secured to the case? Because the intel plastic pin design is shit.

So, compare the shitty AMD HSF from my 9950 Black edition (enthusiast CPU) and it was one of the worst heatsinks I've used.

OEM designs and manufacturers custom coolers for PC's. OEM somehow saves money this way because they dont use the free HSF supplied. ...... seems legit ![]() Quote:
User uses stock HSF. ....... Im starting to see a level of herpa derp here ![]()

Stop being so stupid, get with facts ![]() OEMs DON'T BUY SINGLE UNITS, they buy trays (with no HSF). << my point Quote:
![]() When you buy an enthusiast chip you expect a reasonable package IF the fan is included. Let me put it this way, why include a shit fan? Why not save the $ and pass it on to consumer like some Intel CPU. If you buy an Intel enthusiast CPU either you get some decent (not overly fantastic but BETTER than AMD solution) fan, or you get none at all. You're not stuck with a shitty fan. << my point. Case closed
