I also have the bug where when I restart the phone the Call Forwarding icon will pop up next to the wifi signal icon. Have to go to Settings/Phone/Call Forwarding then it disappears.

Wasn't good....I'd been out to lunch during a work day and thought I'd been out for an hour and a half and was going to get slammed when I got back in

Thankfully it was actually only an hour : )

I've had exactly the same since day dot. But I don't think it's actually forwarded though?? Just looks like it is. Or is it actually forwarded? When I ring my phone it rings as per un-forwarded. Mine will do this at random times also....but thankfully it's pretty rare for me. I just go into call forwarding in settings and it retrieves the correct setting and updates to call forwarding off. Annoying to have to do this though....should have been fixed ages ago.

Is that a no on consensus for cheap iphone5 cables?

Received mine today, one cable is going to be difficult to live with and I'd rather not risk the cheap ebay/dx ones if they're worthless...

I've used cheaper knockoff phones cables in the past and it depends on what you want. For me I've found they tend to charge more slowly so they are ok if you don't mind a slow trickle charge, they get there eventually - ie it would be ok if you are at work for example and have time to wait for it to charge. If you need a quick charge then you would want the original cable.

I don't really know if this is the same for the iphone cables but would think it is (someone else can confirm though). With the iphone cables, from what I've heard there is also the issue of the cable not working after a software upgrade. I couldn't be bothered fluffing around at the time with all these uncertainties so I went genuine in the end and paid the ridiculous $25 they were charging.

Yeah that's what I was trying to avoid. I paid an almighty $1.50 each for the 4S cables... Have about a dozen of the things scattered about all over the place, was hoping to do the same here. At $20-$30 a throw though

On an unrelated note.. while I was in at the telstra shop getting the sim swapped over, had a chance to look at the new sgs4 and htc one. Next to the iphone5, they just look so much, well I suppose more is the right word for it. Bigger, flashier, definitely have that 'I want that' appeal to them. The iphone 5 doesn't really feel or seem any different to my 4S, except that wifi seems to keep working

Oh is that all there is with this fix? I did see that come up but thought there were other minor fixes as well. Well there you go.

hi all

upgraded to an iphone 5 today (well i have the phone, haven't activated the sim yet), just have a couple of questions:

1) from what i've read online, i can back up my iphone 4 then just restore that backup to my new iphone 5.

has anyone had any issues doing this?

2) can i restore a phone that does not have a working sim in it?

situation is, i am trying to unlock my Optus iphone 4

says it can't be done through - https://msc.optuszoo.com.au/iphone/unlock

so i call up, and they've apparently put in a request to have it unlocked, which can take up to 72 hours

after i get confirmation, i will need to do a restore on the phone to unlock it

however, once i switch on my iphone 5 (likely tonight), the sim in my iphone 4 will no longer work, hence the question about restoring without a working sim

this site ( http://www.ehow.com/info_8670628_can...-sim-card.html ) suggests that you just need to leave the sim in there, regardless of whether it's active or not, which would be fine by me

If you have an original iPhone without a SIM card, you'll find that it is essentially useless. Although Apple allows you to use the original iPhone as an iPod Touch, the original SIM card must be left in place. Without the SIM card, Apple advises users to contact their cell phone carriers for a replacement. This SIM card allows you to activate and restore your iPhone regardless of whether it is currently active. When used in this fashion, you'll have access to all your iPhone's features except calling, text messaging and the 3G network.
any help appreciated

thanks

There's sort of a fix for the Call Forwarding bug....anyone tried it?

http://www.avforums.com/forums/17837928-post14.html

Quote:
Solved- Have found a fix, supplied by "Oaklandm" in Apple Support Communities.
This is what he did and has worked for me, Call Forward symbol no longer appears after every restart.

"I went into the call forward setting in phone settings. Set up call forward to my landline. Restarted the phone. Checked the forward worked by calling the phone. Then went back into call forward settings and turned it off. Icon then disappeared. Restarted the phone and it was gone and hasn't been back." - supplied by Oaklandm
