Hmmm...the Ryzen 5 1600x is using the exact same die as the 1800x, just with two cores...disabled.

Is it too much to hope the same unlockability as with my Phenom II 555 dual core B55 quad core?

Drill some holes through the floor of the case for the underside screw holes on the drive. Mount on rubber washers. Profit

No chance I'm butchering up an Evolv ATX TG like that.

only if they allow to happen again

PS the R3/R5 quads are all 8core die as well, so yeah, would be great wouldn't it. (albeit the odds of unlocking a full octo from an quad would be pretty low!)

they will alos be reusing chips that have defective cores as well. So you might be re activating faulty cores that will cause issues.

like I said much earlier in this thread im looking forward to the 1600x that is where I see as the sweet spot for these chips.

It's $469 plus post from PCCG, so what do you think? lol

Check the prices around and pick the cheapest.

I should clarify is 1700 at $400 a better choice in relation to 1700x at $479

It's 20% off rrp at the moment

Ah, I would say yes, the 1700 is better value than all the current Ryzen chips, it clocks just as far, uses less power and costs less. Comes with a cooler as well

Go for it.

value wise yes the 1700 is the go BUT clocked the same i can't see it using less power than the other 2.
also you buying into the silicon lottery 80% of the chips i have seen so far easily hit 3.9 but not as many crack 4 or above(but then again neither do the other 2 i know i, m still trying to get past 4 )

and think of it another way $80 bucks is the difference between a ASUS pro carbon and a Baymax or a b350 and a 370...
or better ram...

If i had not wanted the top chip just because i really wanted it i would have grabbed a 1700.

or you could wait 3 weeks and see what the 1600x goes for...
that will be cheaper again and maybe even better value.

The difference between 3.9 and 4.1 is pretty small, I would say go for the cheaper option in value terms, the only reason for the 1800 is the guaranteed base clock which isn't an issue if your overclocking anyway.

Mine will do 4, it seems most Ryzen chips top out at 4 and a few can get to 4.1/4.2, the Global Foundry 14nm fab doesn't seem to go any higher at this time, this will no doubt be true for all the coming chips as well.

Hopefully by Ryzen 2 they will have sorted the process out some more and get some higher clocks.

eBay has 20% off tech at the moment so looking around.
I might buy the CPU and a board.

I got the CPU off eBay, but I wasn't game to get the board and ram since there have been so many reported issues and I wanted some decent support if I had issues too.

Edit; eBay also didn't have the Gigabyte Gaming K7, which I ordered from SCORPTEC, along with RAM.

im eyeing a 1700 at the moment, it will be hard to beat rice wise for it with teh current sale on ebay.

or I might way for a 1600x and hope for another 20+% off sale them.

honestly i dont know what to do I will probably end up keeping my x79 board and 3820(@4.69ghz) and just buy a 1080ti instead to replace my 2 x 290x's as I pretty much only game on it and I dont think Vega will be worth the wait and wont beat the 1080ti

and I dont think I am CPU limited playing @ 4k.
