And that's if it the gear does come out next year.

Luckily as I'm building a house I can wait another year.

Sorry, unsure where to post this link.

Chipmaker AMD has shed a little more light on efforts to extend its APU technology, which marries a CPU and high-end graphics on the same die, from game consoles and PCs to supercomputers in an attempt to deliver new levels of performance. The company is pushing its heterogeneous architecture, along with a novel memory hierarchy, as the best path to reaching exascale performance in a plausible power budget.

It would be interesting to see a high end AMD platform with muticore CPU/high end GPU and RAM all in the same package.

I'm not sure how this would play with mainstream software but it sounds cool.

I hope Zen is not a flop. Used to have AMD cpus but dont see any reason to get them at the moment. Platform upgrade to go with it is much needed aswell. Last AMD cpu i've had was a Phenom 2 so lets hope they do great things.

Strangely enough I've been getting a "good enough" itch over the last few days, wanting to build an AM3+ system with a hex core CPU, because I think it'll be find for all the games I play, and that, really, although my current set up would far outperform it, I don't know if I'd notice the difference between 60fps and 100fps when I only run at 60hz. I reckon it would be fine.

I've talked myself out of it by instead mentally committing to getting on board with the new AMD zen platform when it comes out. I'd really love to go back to supporting the underdog.

Yeah fingers crossed amd pull a rabbit out of their hat... Intel's offerings / refreshes have been very meh....

Still running sandy bridge with no reason to upgrade and would be more than happy to go back to team red for my next cpu.

My ol' FX 8150 is itching for an upgrade, purely because I haven't upgraded in ages!

Has no problem running what I want as is, but you know

I was running a 1090T @ 4.2GHz for about four years. I ended up upgrading to a 5960X because the four core i7's would have only been a sidegrade in some ways. And FX chips would have been a downgrade in IPC.
Doesn't look like there's much besides Zen that might replace the 5960X on the horizon, and that's from both sides.

To be honest, I could of stayed with the 1100T I was running, didn't notice much of a difference

I feel CPUs currently are at a moot point.

I'd like something that consumes less power and cold air though

Huh.

Jim Keller, designer of the original Athlon 64, was brought back to design Zen in 2012, and left AMD again only five days ago...

Wouldn't read too much into it as he does this a fair bit, leads/sets up the CPU team, implements a new architecture and leaves to do it again elsewhere. It's worked quite well for for the companies he leaves behind.

The last remaining few of us AMD fans pray to the gods that this is in fact what happened.
