I'll miss my Lesbian Shepard (come on admit it that's what we play the game for lol). But seriously, as long as it's in the same universe and it's a story I can get my hooks into, I'm happy to be rebooting with a new character.

Nope, it's after the Mass Effect Trilogy.

While we arenít ready to go into too many details just yet, as you saw in the trailer and can tell by the name, this game is very much a new adventure, taking place far away from and long after the events of the original trilogy. You will play a human, male or female, though thatís actually not the character you saw in the trailer (more on that later). Youíll be exploring an all-new galaxy, Andromeda, and piloting the new and improved Mako you saw. And through it all, you will have a new team of adventurers to work with, learn from, fight alongside of, and fall in love with.

This is the thing, normally this type of game ultimately gets compared to the ones before - look at Telltale's TWD, Season 2 isn't anywhere near as great as Season 1.

I'm yet to see a spinoff game rise above it's inspiration.

They've got a lot of work to bring the epic scope of the story to the same heights as the original trilogy - I mean we were so invested in that story and it's characters, it was for me 3*60-70 hour games over 5 years. That is scale.

I feel like I gave up on Mass Effect once they introduced ammunition, sorry "cooling packs" (or whatever they were called).

Completely ruined the theory behind what mass effect is.

ME was amazing, ME2 was pretty good still but ME3 sucked ass due to the linear ending (hilarious considering the producer said they didn't like generic endings).

Agreed. The cooling clips were such a crap idea. I think what would have been better was having the cooling clips to allow your weapon to fire longer and faster but when they are gone you can still fire but you have to be mindful of your weapon overheating.

I really enjoyed that part of ME1... then when ammo came in to ME2 I hated combat.

Still think I'd take the Mako over probing planets for resources. Wow, what a crappy mini-game that was.

it wasn't that bad, and tbh the whole exploring a planet and finding a base was pretty cool.

Especially when you land on the moon and can see earth. That was awesome. Also the one with the Thresher Maw.

Good times.

I'm guessing that it'll be something before or nearly concurrent with the original trilogy. Something like:
  • Find Mass Relay that sends you to the Andromeda galaxy. Confirmed via recon mission.
  • Hunams put (small) team together to go explore. Go through Mass Relay.
  • Something happens to Mass Relay that stops them from getting back to the Milky Way, so they have to figure out how to sort that.
  • Explore Andromeda (or a section of it, need space for sequels), meeting and recruiting aliens.
  • Insert appropriate amount of alien sexy times
  • May or may not be Reapers. Or have to do something to stop Reapers from getting to Andromeda.

Game is using Frostbite, so I expect there to be ammo of some kind. Hope they explain it properly how they would find analogous technology to have the same usable "cooling clips" drop off brand new aliens. Or will Bioware do a better job on the story, and have your Milky Way weapons run out and turn into wall decorations, as you appropriate Andromeda tech to continue your alien blasting ways.

Is there Mass Effect in the Andromeda galaxy? Considering that the tech was built by the Reapers in the Milky Way..

Agree, I had some real fun with the Mako. Definitely one of my favourite features.

I found mako pretty fun but way OP never got close to dying..

As for combat ME2 feels much nicer, ME1 was too clunky and did headshots even multiply damage?

I did come from ME1 right into ME2 if that makes any difference, I best finish ME2 and get onto 3.
