Does 16 vs 32gb matter in cinebench in terms of performance ?

X370 in the house

Nice board so far, VRM clearly a cut above the cheaper MSI B350, but at the end of the day from inital testing doesn't afford much more headroom, Since chips hard wall so quickly

and the Nano is back on air, and on the bench. 3dm fun, though a Ti would be nice about now

noop, too expensive just for benching :P

Maybe by the time I do a new in case for my daily, there'll be an XH apex, or something, so i'll hold off.

Ah I c, think I might pick up the ASRock Fatality Pro Gaming and keep that for my comp for the next few years, looks to have everything needed to carry me through.

Built a $3.5k 3D modelling system for a mate - Ryzen 1700X, MSI X370 Gaming Pro Carbon, 64GB RAM, GTX1070, he is pretty impressed with performance compared to i7 920. Granted it's an 8 year old chip

Intermittent issues with 960 EVO M.2 SSD as others have encountered, hopefully BIOS fix won't be too far away.

I had planned to OC it but ran out of time. UEFI is fancy looking but a little light on options to fiddle with. RAM timing options are non existent but apparently that's due to AGESA code restrictions from what I've read, not much the OEM can do.

Looking forward to building my own once the dust settles

Hi dirtyd,

What kind of issue do you get with the 960 EVO?

have a look in the other thread regarding missing drives...someone on the rog forum has a theory which sounds plausible

It's just intermittent boot issues, sometimes he has to hit the boot select key on startup and manually select the drive. Scorptec posted in one of the other threads that they have been notified by MSI, who are aware of the issue and have a fix coming up. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

finally got around to collecting Some DF and RAM scaling data.

I plan to do a lot more game related testing than this. But i graphed the couple that showed the trend most obviously - that is, Memory/DF clocks trump timings

and particuarly interesting is the skydiver combined test. you can see what appears to be n very little memory bw bottleneck on the individual tests, but a clear scaling when you combine physics with graphics.

this trend is not seen on firestrike, possibly because it's more bound to both raw rendering and computational power on both cpu and gpu wheras the lighter skydiver test , memory subsystem becomes the bottleneck.

I'd love to to test this on 4+0 config, and also on a system with fixed L3 / ringbus clock (something thats not possible on ryzen - so bulldozer or intel system) while varying ram speed. and see if the combined test still see'
s an uplift.
