So purists should only drink whiskey in Canberra or Hobart?

Maybe Canberra in the winter, but definitely not in the summer.

Meh, if I'm filthy rich, I'd do the same. Stock only cognac at home and when someone ask for a brandy coke, i just use cognac! Or using gran morangie for mixers! Oh the hells I will be visiting when I die hahah

Man, I can't believe how many people are recommending ice or water or what not.
Cognac should be served neat in a heated glass - the heat releases a bunch more aromas and flavour.
I also saw people say whisk(e)y shouldn't be served chilled - this is too true, cuts away so much flavour.

my general response would be...

1. pour cognac into glass.
2. put glass near mouth.
3. open mouth and tip the glass so that the cognac goes into the mouth.

done.
