Yes. Take it to [URL="http://forums.overclockers.com.au/showthread.php?t=801514"]the correct thread[/URL, and read through it before posting helps as well too

Default New Headphones

Hey all,

Looking to get my self a late birthday present of some nice headphones.

So far after chats with some guys from the Aussie thread on OCN i have narrowed my selection down to these 3:

Audio-Technica ATH-ES7
Sennheiser HD212PRO
AKG K81

these are all within my budget (of $100 - but i can stretch a little)

Which would you recommend?

Will be used for gaming, music from PC, music from phone (Samsung Omnia) mainly.

i like bass and do sound engineering for school for all the school shows/performances/presentation nights - so i know what sounds good *to me*

I have a friend with a pair of HD485 - and they have far too much bass in them for my liking - so use that as a comparison....

I wish to get these soon - as i have end of school exams soon....

Thanks in advanced

scottath

On the ES7's. Great for portability. Not so great for sitting around and listening. They aren't particularly comfy and the short cable doesn't sit nicely with home setups.

If you don't want something overly bassy, the HD212pro aren't going to suit - they're boomy and muddy.
The AKG K81 has been replaced by the K518DJ, which are another bassy model.

I'd suggest the Shure SRH440 if you need closed, or Alessandro MS-1 if you don't.

the MS-1's look rather delicate...

I posted thisd on the OCN forum also - and they have recommended many - but the consensus seems to be the Senn HD555;s

http://www.overclock.net/sound-cards...eadphones.html (not sure if you can see that though.....?)

Also - i want to get them ASAP - so the MS-1s are out of stock atm on your site
Have HSC coming up - want them before that for study sessions

The Grado design does indeed look fragile but hey, they have very expensive headphones that use the same design. It's simple and fewer things to go wrong I guess. As long as you aren't an abuser, I can't see anything wrong happening.

I believe the MS1i's are due in soon [end of the week maybe? depends on customs].

Don't fall into the Sen hype. It's the default go to company. You could get something better than the 555s for the price.

Hey I baby my stuff but went to put my phone in my pocket, only to have it slip out of my hand. As it was flying towards the cement, I quickly stuck my foot out in an attempt to cushion the landing. Walked away some tiny marks on the plastic casing. My heart was going nuts.

I guess it depends what your priority is. If it is music, the MS1s are better. They go nicely with rock. If it's gaming, well I'm not sure. Shures?

lol - they will be widely used....
music + gaming

i have done much the same - the foot trick.lol

My predicament - i know nothing of good headphones, i want really good ones but for a broad range of uses....

The MS1's everyone seems to like - but to me they look like they are rather easy to break....so not sure on them

You have to get what you want. If you think they might snap, don't get them. I'd wait for snufkin to come back to suggest alternatives.

The 440s are said to be excellent closed phones for the price.

The headband and supporting arms etc are metal, you can bend them but breaking them isn't so easy. Cables are the weak points on headphones.

Nope.

Our MS1 stock is due very soon. I don't recommend the HD555 because they're basically mediocrity at its best, ie: they don't do anything particularly well, or anything particularly badly.

The Shures are great if you need isolation, the MS1 are quite a bit better if you don't.
