Default Cooler Master HAF 912 Advanced/i7 2600k/SSD Build (56k Death)

So thanks to all, that gave me advise on what to get for my new build. Thought i would do a little log of the build now i have finished it, for now.

Scope for the Build was:

$1000 Budget (went over by 180)
Get best hardware for money possible
Get a quiter case with better cooling
Re-use my 2x GTX 280's (roughly equal a GTX 570 they get a 3dMark Vantage Score of 23,000)

So my old setup was a Q9550 790i Ultra setup in Lian Li case which was good quality but a little noisy.

So went and got my parts (refer to Sig)

And put it together trying to be neat

As you can see i reused a 140MM fan i had. I was running all fans from a 12V Connector (molex) and while all the new fans were quite my 140mm fan was annoyingly noisy.

So I needed a new 140mm fan. So i went and bought two Thermalright PWM TY-140's, put them on my cooler and put the original noctua fans in my case, using the 140mm for the side. Also ran all of the case fans off the Motherboard fan headers so they can be controlled via the Fan Xpert software from ASUS. I run them at 40% when surfing the net and ramp them up to 100% when in game, this is based on a CPU temperature Setpoint.

Original fans on the Noctua

New Fans on the Noctua

Outside shot

Rear

Tidyed up the cabling a little

Mounted the SSD on top of the case SSD bracket (just drilled 4 new holes)

Believe it or not that took about 5 hours before i was happy with how the cables were I really hate not having a Modular power supply Ohh well at least you dont see that side of the case )

So yeah it does everything i wanted, neat , quite, tons of grunt Happy days

Hey nice work its looking good
Was just wondering do you see any difference in day to day performance from switching platforms? I've got a Q6600 @ 3.6ghz and a 2600k at 4.4ghz and in most things i can't hardly tell the difference

Funny you say that Benchmark wise increases in CPU depended games but not GPU games e.g. Metro 2033 frames are 2fps higher with new CPU.

Stuff is so GPU reliant now days its crazy. BF3 Online did benefit from the extra grunt but.

Minor Update.

So the case never had a filter for the side fan, I ordered a Ebay special, Aluminium frame 140mm filter for like $5.

The holes are for 140mm fans but the Noctua NF-P14 FLX holes are 120mm so i drilled clearance holes in the mesh, and it all worked sweet.

Filter stops dust and quietened the air noise getting sucked through the standard perspex bars with minimal air flow loss.

I also had a spare 120mm cooler master fan from the rear of the case, so i decided to Velcro it to the side of my GPU's this bring temps down 5deg on the top card and 1 deg on the bottom.

I also have this fan running off a fan header via another Gelid Y-Splitter.

Set-up has been really stable cannot complain bring on the GTX780

Update:

So after a bit of dremel loving (don't mind the slight grinds on the flat surface the light makes it look bad but its smooth) opened up the exhaust ports and get 1-2 deg coolers in bf3, Alan wake, metro 2033, 3d mark etc there is alot more air coming out and less air noise when it had to go through the vents.

Good stuff I could take more metal out but this is fine for now It's good retaining the rear bracket in one piece anyway.

presuming you only have tested them in game performance

Maybe if I went the level of sleeving your build has i would tidy it up more but it took me 5 hours to get all the rigid cables flat enough to put the side panel on it only has a 0.75inch gap between tray and panel this is the thing i hate about this case. Good thing is I never pull that side cover off

That's what I was referring too Of course benchmark performance will be greater in the 2600K

Well I choose it due to the good airflow thanks to the 2x200mm+ 1x120mm fans & adding the 140mm side helped even more.

Its been really good the only thing I wish they had done is made the back panel gap a bit bigger it is difficult to get all those cables to fit.

Apart from that its been really good, we are luck in AUS we get the Advanced version which gets the black interior, USB3 and clear side window. All that for a little over $100
