i've only use three lenses these days: 24-70mm, 50mm and 85mm

add another to the list that doesn't use a 70-200mm

i used to not use anything over 85mm as well years ago and couldnt understand the need for long lengths, but tele compression is a very powerful effect.

Yep, sure do.

Never said anything about screaming in horror, I said comfortable.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest that maybe you and I have very different shooting styles. That's ok isn't it?
It's always hard to not get the couples attention when you bring a lens to bear on them but, generally, I'll try to do everything I can to minimise any negative impact I have on them.

Oh and I did say it was one of the reasons... If I'm honest, the 50/1.2 I had used to hunt for focus a lot more than the 1.4 I have, and at 1.8 and above I can't tell the two apart in terms of IQ.

and seriously an issue that the lens is too big? huh? they did book and pay for a pro tog right? iv never come across anything like that. i often use the 300 2.8 on location too
Like your photo (I'm sure if I had 200/2 or 300/2.8 I'd use them more for weddings too), but disagree with your statement above.
For my own wedding I chose a photographer with creative flair and an eye for details - not the one with the biggest lenses

this is why everyone should have a long lens.

I was at a wedding a few weeks ago & the tog had a 24-70 and a 16-35. Needless to say he was quite close the whole time. He also only seemed to take shots from one angle the whole time zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
he did come back after a while with a 70-200 but it didn't last long.

Damn right it is. I use my 135mm over my Mk 1 70-200 but the Mk II is like a 135mm with zoom.

first rule of wedding photography: expose for the dress. That's all that matters

it's probably mountain & not sky. Too dark for sky

Try approaching some local wedding photographers/find some local groups online and see if anyone has a spot for a second shooter free.
