Default Ivy Bridge

There's been a recent price drop on Sandy Bridge processors (Intel's pricing, it will take a while to pass along to consumers as the retailers' stock was probably bought at the old price) but before you buy a 2700K be aware that on April 8 Ivy Bridge is coming. It's the 22nm die shrink of Sandy Bridge. It's got a far faster IGP but more importantly for folding it has a decent (~20%) reduction in power consumption. Add to this the fact that it's apparently a better overclocker than SB and I think it's going to be a winner. Bear in mind that this isn't confirmed yet and IB is still 3 months away but it's something to note. I hope you all have a good new year.

Eh Fudzilla.

Should be alright though, word coming through that they are getting 5.0-5.4ghz at <1.35v

They arent faster per say clock for clock though, they are around the same.http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...ght=ivy+bridge

I've been using quad-cores for years now. If I'm going to upgrade, it's gotta have more than 4 cores. Maybe Ivy Bridge E will bring hex- or octo- core CPUs.

if i was gonna change up my current folding set, it would be for more cores per machine rather than the speed. Say 8 cores HT per machine

Specially with the changes to BBA coming up next year

Gotta agree with others, I'm looking for more cores. Ivy Bridge won't have more than 4C/8T, just going to have to hang out for new AMD or Intel revisions with more cores.

Im just into it for benching, more cores might help some benchies but generally more mhz is king, so if they clock better than I will have one... or two ...

They will be engineering samples anyway, who knows what retail will do.

Did you notice that shaminos huge 7970 scores were done with a 2011 ES cpu?
