Default 1 Light Beauty Shot

I have been wanting to do a simple beauty shoot for ages and these holidays gave me a chance to get back into the studio to have a little play around

The model is not a model (if that makes any sense). She is just a friend that helped me out for this shoot as i wasn't sure what the outcome would be

Setup was a feathered 22" Beauty Dish above the model and about 2 metres of aluminum foil wrapped around the shelving insert of an Ikea entertainment unit.

Makeup was deliberately natural. i.e makeup to make it look like she had no makeup on

1.)

2.)

3.)

I really like them, number one looks amazing.
How much post did you do?
Any shots of the actual set up?

Well done for one light

I like the lighting and the backdrop but the skin smoothing has crept too far into the hairline which is always something I try to avoid.

First things I saw was the above....hairline and the black eye socket. Otherwise nice.

Really nice lighting .. Very natural tones.

As others have mentioned the only minor issue is the skin without texture. Other than that it's awesome.

The setup was really quite simple

Although its a one light setup you will need a couple of other bits and pieces to make life easy

I had an AB800 with 22 inch beauty dish place directly in front of the models head with the bottom of the dish about an arms length away to give me the feathered lighted i wanted

The model was sitting behind this

http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail...les/OWSINCLAIR

Though you can just have her hold a bounce card etc.

I wrapped foil around an ikea shelving insert to use as my reflector and placed it on top of the notebook stand

Background was the 2.4x1.8m white mdf i used in previous shoots

I metered at F13 at 1/125th

Shot at around 105-130mm range from memory

I think the reflector is too harsh, and you've gone a tad too far on the skin smoothing for my liking... I would clean up the hair especially since you've made her skin perfected.

#2's my fav as it's so natural, she maybe needed to be 6" to her left so the light hit the right of her face more.

Maybe tighter crop on #1 too?

Either way after this CC I still like them so well done
