Yes, and I realise that good designs take on a life of their own.

This should not remove the focus however from the point of my post which was how blatantly Seiko has taken liberties with the tag version.

anyone have an idea on the duty-free watch prices in Dubai? I'm wondering how comparative they are to other countries, initial impressions are that it is quite cheap. I'll be heading back through there in about a month on the way home so looking to pick up my first 'decent' watch.

I cannot decide however between Seiko,Citizen-eco or Tissot, looking to spend about $500ish on a simple chronograph-style with metal band.

Any suggestions on what models to consider?

Add another $300 on that and you'll be able to score a brand new Tag F1 Chrono (with discount). And if you are leaving the country, that 10% back of the RRP Price.

Check it out. Well worth the extra $300.

i've not overly impressed with the size of the bezel on the F1

assuming you mean this

I was leaning more towards a tissot PRC200, but after going through this thread looking more now to find an Oris in the sub $1k price range

I see, another cheap contender would be the Swiss Army Maverick II

I really love that design, and want my next watch to look something like that.

Seamasters are ok, and Aquaracers are ok, but I prefer the look of this to even those two.

I love the Speedmater but its a bit too similar to the TAG Carrera for my liking. Maybe later down the track

Any suggestions? Have al el-cheapo Guess watch that I bought a few months ago that I'm banging around when I don't want to wear the TAG, but would like something of a similar design to that Swiss Army one, like a divers style one with the big bezel, or whatever you call it.

You know the Speedmaster has looked like that since 1957ish?

I have got the following...

Cartier Tank Divan Automatic, this is my dress watch

Bvlgari Solotempo mens, day to day watch

Panerai J Series, work watch

White J12, Automatic, this is my bling bling watch

I like them all equally, however tha Bvlgari and Panerai get worn the most.

Dont get me wrong I love the look of the Speedmaster, I just so happened to get the TAG Carrera first, and since they look rather similar I'd rather get something else before it.

Wow there's some great watches in this thread! Very impressive for someone who doesn't wear one.

This isn't a 'FOR SALE' as such but if anyone is interested I have my late Father's, circa 2003 Omega Seamaster Chronometer Automatic on Ebay.....$0.99 starting bid. Is excellent condition but will leave to you guys. I have only placed here as this is SUCH a great thread.....and the average joes prolly don't want something like this.

OMEGA SEAMASTER LINK

I will give a 5% discount off final price to any OCAU member who identifies himself as one. Which might be a good thing as a few have gone over $2k lately.

Cheers, Nikko

Hi Auro...

Sorry I've no idea. This version of the Seamaster is now supersceded.

But this Seamaster is still the most sought after and famous...based on the little I've read.

Cheers, Nikko

Leather Straps/Metal/plastic straps?

I have only had $100 RIpcurl/Nike watches with plastic bands before...

I found an awesome CK watch, $295ticket, which I think looks quite nice. Its got a leather outterstrap and a plastic inner strap...

Apparently leather innerstraps are fairly crap to wear, but not a problem when there is a plastic innerstrap...? Thoughts?

I suppose everyone has metal, so it musn't be that bad... but the girl trying to sell me the leather/plastic one kept bitching about how metal ones rarely fit right, even after resizing, and they are heavy, and scratch easily, and catch on ur arm hair... thoughts?

leather is for a dress watch not your everyday watch so yeah i won't wear a leathre band watch every day

the cheap metal ones will "catch your arm hair" but never had that with my seamaster

I like metal more and it fits! you just need to have it adjusted properly to your hand

I find plastic ones rott or dry up and break after 6 months or so, i do some swiming in salt water probably that's why

i don't mind leather for everyday wear my plan is to put my Tag on a thicker black leather band at some point. plastic defiantly not though I only have memories of my plastic banded watches but they just seemed sweaty and unpleasant compared to leather or metal. Also metal bands are fairly easily made to fit correctly if you have one that can have half links taken out. mine is just about perfect
