Hi all,
I recently upgraded my case, PSU and Video card so I figured I'd upgrade the rest while I'm at it. Just wanting to make sure that it all makes sense to you guys. I haven't overclocked in years but with this build I will be. Parts in red are already purchased/in current system: Intel i7 2600k Corsair H80 ASRock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3 GSkill Ripjaws 8gb 2133 (1700) C9 (2x4gb) HIS HD6970 2GB Thermaltake ToughPower 775W WD 250GB SATA2 2x WD 1TB SATA2 Thermaltake Overseer case Please don't preach SSD. I want one and it will be my next upgrade. I'm hoping this should get to 4.5GHz easily. Thanks. *Edit* Thinking about it a bit more, most of my PC usage is for gaming, is it worthwhile going the i7 or save $100 and go the i5 2500k?

2500k is the best compromise between gaming/general use/price

Without an SSD your computer is nothing. Ditch the H80, don't get anything more than a 2500K and you'll have enough to cover a Crucial M4. I'd get cheaper 1600MHz RAM too.
EDIT: I'm not preaching - you just need to see the light

Spoiler below, highlight to read: GET A F@#$ING SSD YOU FOOL! But the 2500k for the $100 cheaper is fine compared to a 2600k

Managed to get the 2500k to 5GHz but needed 1.49-1.5v. To be stable it would need 1.52v.
Temps are fine but not happy running that voltage, back to 4.5GHz Also for the SSD preachers, I meant by next upgrade = next weekend (need more time to move shit around). What SSDs are best to go for?

My current boot HDD is sitting at about 220GB but there is a lot of crap on there. I'd probably just have OS + few apps + SWTOR/BF3 so 120GB would suffice.
Thanks for the help! ![]() *Edit* Can get a Intel 320S 120GB SATA 3 for $259

![]() I plan on getting the 2600k as my next CPU on the best ASRock board too, I think +4.4GHz will be -easy- seeing as I plan on watercooling it with a 4x120 ![]() Good choice. Corsair H80 Cant complain, however personally if I was getting watercooling I would flesh out a proper expandable kit, say if my graphics cards became noisy in their age, etc etc. Plus you can get a better radiator and cooler tubing and such, but its entirely up to you. SSD - Crucial M4 as many suggest, or say a Corsair Force GT series are among the fastest and more reliable. SSD's are the way of the future!

Save some bucks on the ram as mentioned above and the 2500k is enough.
Try amazon.com if you want for crucial m4 ssds but I like them.maybe not as reliable as intel or as fast as the sandforce ones but reliable and fast enough to not really matter. Josh

I mean, if you don't buy the SSD now then you'll only have to re-install your OS onto when you do end up getting one - doesn't make sense.
![]() You seem to be set on getting an overpriced CPU and excessively over-the-top performance RAM.

Go the ssd over the 6970.
Delivery from amazon, I 've had books get here in a week and some things up to 2 weeks. I am in a regional area too so that usually adds a day or two. Josh
